Follow Up Feedback

I had a buyer claim INR and just from the tone of her message I feel she is lying. However, I have no prrof so just gave a full refund.

I leave feedback as soon as I receive payment, so I had already left my normal glowing comment. I have now went and left follow up feedback, just stating full refund given as item not received.

She then messaged me saying this wasn't fair. I think it is fair as it can warn off other sellers....what do you think ?

So long as it is factual, I don't see what is not fair about it.

Sounds fine to me, you've just recorded what happened, e.g. the buyer paid up but then you refunded as they did not receive it. Nothing to consider unfair there.

I think it is a great idea as other sellers can now see she has claimed an item not received. If the buyer is being dishonest it may put her off claiming another item not received.

I think you did exactly the right thing, which is going to be very helpful for other sellers. I also occasionally update feedback to show a resolution of some kind.

Why would any buyer want to hide the fact that they did not receive and got a refund for something? ...Unless it happens unusually frequently???

Thanks everyone. Feel a bit more justified in doing it now.

The buyer only had about 70 feedback and all as a buyer, so all positive, but I thought the same as you lot. If she was truly losing parcels then my follow up shouldn't have been a problem. On the other hand if she was lying then it might make her stop and think about what she was doing. I only lost out on a small amount, less than £2, but other sellers might lose out on more.

Think I might start doing it for all my missing parcels, seem to have at least two a month on cheaper items, and have never had one on dearer items. And the ones I do have seem to complain within days that their items haven't turned up. I always wait nearly two weeks before chasing up parcels that haven't arrived....

I disagree - I don't think something which is often outside the buyer's control should be flagged, I don't think it does anyone any favours. Of course you have a 'gut feeling' - you are the one that has to refund - that still doesn't prove any wrongdoing on her part.

I resent someone saying 'it's not a problem for an honest buyer'. It is, given your insistence that she is lying with no concrete proof. You obviously want to ding her feedback in some way - which is a negative situation, and something I think eBay would remove if asked.

I don't leave feedback in an INR situation where the item never turns up (unless the seller takes it to a dispute, which has happened twice); this is why. I've had about 10 genuine situations in the past two years - it's a nuisance (I was thinking of giving up buying online altogether at one point) but it's simply not my responsibility.

Can i ask, warn off other sellers of what exactly? As you yourself state you have no proof whatsoever.
This for me is a perfect example of why sellers being able to neg was removed and should never be reinstated. You have in effect albeit by the backdoor called your buyer a liar with no evidence other than the fact you`re out of pocket..

Royal Mail is the one out of pocket, not the seller/OP (assuming this was the service used and OP has proof of posting).

OP has no proof the item was delivered so had no option other than to refund. The follow up feedback left can show other sellers that this buyer has claimed an INR which could be a regular thing. If the buyer is dishonest then this may infact put them off claiming other items as not received. Why would the buyer want to hide the fact an item has not been received?

Agree with your first part, as you say assuming op has proof of postage.
What i take umbrage with is the op`s assertation that the buyer is lying without any proof whatsoever.
I think the buyer may read it as i have done in that the op is calling her a liar indirectly. which im sure you will agree any honest person would be upset by.

Because it might make an honest buyer look like a scammer?
