As already explained, if he's on a circa 2.5% rate on a repayment mortgage, his capital paid will be over 3%.
Which isn't 4%.

I assume the arrogant bit, but maybe you mean that I am not bearish.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

Which would be fine, if renoman hadn't said that the interest rates don't make any difference to the 4%!!!
He has explained since that he just meant anyone who has had a mortgage for a year, is a year into their mortgage. Apparently.0 -
RenovationSausage used the wrong words to explain his point. He has since explained what he meant.
Do we really need 9 fricking pages of people correcting him, when he has already explained his stance?
I genuinely believe that some of you came close to orgasm when you thought that someone on an internet forum may have made a calculation error.

A question that you should ask yourself, judging by the first part of the above quote.
Anyway, nothing wrong with a bit of internet forum "cut and thrust", especially when the OP puts himself on a pedestal. "RenovationSausage" (:rotfl:) is as guilty as most others (including myself) in correcting others, and spending quite a lot of time doing so. It's all part of the game, I reckon.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

If you call this is a game, you really need to get out more.
Unless of course you have some kind of disability which means you're house-bound. In that case, I apologise for my insensitivity."Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship." - Benjamin Franklin0 -
This is amusing.
Suggestions that there is something wrong with others. Suggestions others should get out more....
....said by a person who comes to the thread solely to insult those who are finding it amusing to watch renoman dance around like a wet fish.0 -

Actually, I came to the thread to read about house prices dropping 2.6%. That didn't work out so well, pretty much thanks to you and your buddies."Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship." - Benjamin Franklin0 -
Me and my buddies? Says the person coming in solely to rally in support of reno alongside Hamish and Dan!?
Go on, hand me your next corker!
Heres a thought, btw....renoman could have just said "ooops, yer, got that wrong" ???0 -

I think that calling some of what goes on on this forum "a game" shows that I have a pretty decent idea what this is all about. If you think that this forum should be taken totally seriously, then I suggest that you don't really "get it". Let's face it, this part of the forum is hardly going to be used by those who are seriously looking for financial advice. It's a "debate & discussion" forum, and I find it hardly suprising that is sometimes descends into verbal battles between it's contributors. I think that those of us that lock horns here actually find it entertaining to some degree, at least I hope we do.
If this kind of behaviour were taking place in some of the other areas of this website, then I think you would have good reason to be critical.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0
