Prepaid Euro/Dollar cash cards

Just writing a review after returning from France and not being able to use our prepaid Euro Card at the tolls (one of the main reasons we got one)... As they are Electronic Cards (not sure what that means) but most tolls would not accept it and kept spitting it out!! Only one worked and that was when leaving Calais. However the card did work in all other stores and restaurants and we found it very useful for paying for petrol too! It's a good way to budget as you can collect up the receipts and keep an eye on your spending! The rates are good too we have the My Travelcash Mastercard which gives you cash back on all your purchases too.. :T

The tolls don't accept these cards because they have to authorise absolutely all transactions online, which takes a few seconds, whereas other types of card have permission to charge modest transactions without checking.
If you go there quite a bit, or just don't like queues, it might be worth looking into getting an account with one of the motorway firms to have one of those automatic charging devices on the windscreen.0 -
