+1 for power plugs. My router was on a different floor to the sky box so cable alone was not practical and the plugs worked simply and first time and have been 100% reliable since.

But on Amazon there are literally hundreds of ethernet cables, are the plastic ones any different to the gold ones, are gold ones better or no different, told you I knew nothing.

More expensive would be worthwhile if you were constantly plugging in/unplugging the cable every five minutes. In normal use you only do an insertion/withdrawal cycle once or twice a year. The 98p plastic ones will be fine.

Or you could spend £30 on power-line adaptors - but you will still need an Ethernet cable at each end

Thanks for all your help guys, bought a 5m one locally for £2.99 from a little independant shop, OH has drilled a hole through the wall, connected up and all working brilliantly.:j cheers
