Ive just got a new HD plus box for free:j
Managed to install it myslef last night. :j
I have sky anytime, little on it yet because the box is so new.
I can have Sky On Demand for free apparently by inserting the ethernet cable into the new box and into the router, but cant because of walls etc.
Sky man says I can buy wireless ethernet, can anyone tell me about this, Where from, about how much and how its installed, Im not a techie so I'd be grateful if its in simple terms please.

The easiest way is a pair of powerline adapters. These pass the network signal via your house power cables.
These will do you:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-PA211KIT-200Mbps-Powerline-Ethernet/dp/B004INVKP4/ref=sr_1_9?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1343767356&sr=1-9
and two ethernet cables.
You can plug the powerline adapters into extension leads but NOT ones with surge protection, because they don't pass the signal. You allegedly need both plugs to be on the same circuit, but that appears to be wrong, beacause they work on any circuits for most people.
Plug the ethernet cable from your Sky box into one and an ethernet cable from your modem router into the other.
Should 'just work'.
You also need to log on to Sky.com and enable Anytime Plus. You will need your Sky Card number if you haven't registered on Sky.com before.
You could also get a Wireless Bridge for less, but these sometimes take some setting up.
The Sky Wireless Connector is £60 and is just an overpriced Wireless Bridge.

HiYa McKneff,
- on the back of your router you have 1 Ethernet in and 4 Ethernet out ports, only one-in and one-out cable in it at the moment, is that right ?
- the existing cable goes to your puter and you need a new bog standard RJ45 cable going to your new free Sly HD box !
Make sure, if you want to go cable that you get the right length [they go to a megga 150 foot on CAT5] cable. other options are wireless [in the thread title] and home-plugs. If you want to reassure yourself pull the existing Ethernet cable from your puter and plug it into the HD box box - does it work ok ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. You do realise that you can buy long Ethernet cables for as few quid. Far cheaper than power-line adaptors!

ooh, that might be better, we can hide the cable as we have hole in the wall anyway for the telephone cable and the rest of it in the hall is under the carpet,
But I must take the time to say 'thank you' to Withabix for the time taken to help,
I'll show all this to my OH tomorrow and decide which way to go.
All this technology does my head in lol. Its running away from me.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Sorry, I had assumed it was a bit further away!
Direct connection via a longer ethernet cable is of course the cheapest and easiest way!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Thanks Withabix, now i have another query lol
I can get a 3m ethernet cable and put it through the wall with the telephone cable.
But on Amazon there are literally hundreds of ethernet cables, are the plastic ones any different to the gold ones, are gold ones better or no different, told you I knew nothing.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
