managed to get a lot of postage wrong-

I am careful, really I am due to having made mistakes in the past and I never list anything now without checking the weight with an approximation of packaging weight. I even have a laminated chart stating the weight of each size of my packing boxes to get it right.

Yet I have managed to sell some things on my private account at the last free listing weekend and got the postage completely wrong- yet I remember weighing it all. I must have weighed them checked the box size and then completely ignored it. argghh

I have charged on most things £2.40 to cover £2.20 postage and 20p towards the cost of my boxes- yet some of the items weigh over a kilo.

What on earth was I doing? Luckily I had a blinding night sale wise so won't be out of pocket overall, and I am de cluttering (this is all private stuff so lots of room cleared) but I must have been completely distracted when I listed

It was either get it off my chest on here or cry into my wine glass!

The worst one so far has gone to 1011 grammes so has cost me £5.60 1st class , may cry into my wine glass after all.

Still, I have sold two bits of old tat that I almost threw away (I wasn't sure the charity shop would want them) for £31 in total- so at least I can afford the wine.

there is a great postage app on the iphone if you have one.

But these days scales and a size template are also worth getting, as keeping something just under the next price bracket can save quite a bit.

Totally, I've been offering free P&P with a few items, so dropping it down a level is money in my pocket.
So any light clothes can go free, but bulkier items, such as jumpers, go as packets, which I'm charging for.

I have a laminated post chart, set of digital scales and a size gauge on my desk, alongside another laminated chart showing the weight of all my packaging- that's why I can't imagine what I was doing to get it wrong.

I have now unwrapped the 1011g parcel and managed to get it 1g below 1kg so it's down to £3.50 which is better.

Maybe the glass of wine next to the scales and laminated chart has something to do with it then ;)

    Ha!

cheeky, seriously though i am careful when doing anything that involves money, and never mix even a glass of wine with making money.

Win some, loose some. It is annoying when you weigh something and estimate the packaging but when you finally pack it it's a few grams over the post limit.

For items between 1 and 2Kg I use Parcel*Go, the cheapest is £4 total and so far have had good service. Feedback suggests most items are delivered after 2 days. Cheaper than RM

Charge £2.40, Pay £5.60 and the buyer will think £2.40 was steep and give you low stars....

    What a silly system.
