Bought car from dealer, V5 not signed

I bought car 3 weeks ago - road tax runs out today. Dealer 'forgot' to send in V5 to DVLA so I picked it up from him today (old version).
He took the car in p/x from the registered keeper, whose name is still in Section A, but neither of them has signed the Declaration. My details are in the New Keeper box however.
I need to tax it ASAP, so plan on taking it in to Post Office tomorrow. What should I do? If I leave it unsigned will PO make a fuss?
I REALLY don't want to have to wait 4-6 weeks and send it in to DVLA
Thanks a lot
NB. The green New Keeper Supplement has been stamped already so PO refused to accept it

Think of how many thousands of these forms they get every day, do they check each one?!

I don't know what the official policy is but I have never had a problem taxing my wife's car using her documents. Just make it clear that she is your wife.0 -
doesnt matter who actually takes the stuff into the PO.
as long as all the paperwork tallies up.0 -
All you need from the V5 is the new keeper supplement so just take that.

the dealer who i bought my vehicle from signed it even though previous owners deatils were on the v5 and not dealers.
handover of v5 is no longer proof of sale/transference. you need a seperate receipt/document for that so v5 doesnt have as much importance as it used to.
just sign it however.0 -

There is no handover of the V5.
The vendor is responsible for sending in the V5.0
