Since nowhere else has it, it can really distort attitudes. Sellers think that they have the right to openly label people thieves, timewasters and so on on the flimsiest of pretexts. On Amazon that culture hasn't developed, and that creates a less hostile and antagonistic relationship where the buyer is in control, which they are in law and in most good retail practice anyway.

Customer reference systems are the equivalent of the Sovietesque checkout assistant giving all potential customers the eyeball and carping at them - 'hope you're not going to break that' 'I've got my eye on you, sonny Jim' and so on - which creates a hostile atmosphere and is ultimately offputting.

Buyers don't have to spend money on eBay, and so we need to encourage them in. I don't know about you but the above ^^^ is pretty depressing to meet on the high street and I'd prefer if it didn't get in the way of people shopping with me online.

Ebay does not protect the seller. And many scammy inclinded buyers know this.
Really fed up with the situation. I'm an at home carer of my elderly mother. I get £58.30 a week and not a penny more. That is what I personally live on! I sell occasionally on ebay for a few pennies more.
It is upsetting when one gets "photograph does not look like the product I recieved!".
Ebay need to re-address the balance - either remove feedback altogether or allow sellers to leave feedback to scammy buyers!

To those who try scamming - remember that a private seller is not a major business and really just can't afford it. Nor can the small business for that matter either!

Unfortunately sellers (!) can be scammers too and that is one reason why they need more protection. There are new "reporting of buyer" help being introduced this October, there won't be any changes to feedback in the foreseeable future and certainly won't be a reintroduction of sellers being able to leave negatives for buyers, that would be pointless.

I think expecting to be able to leave a neg for a buyer who believes they didn't get what the photograph suggested - is the reason the ability for seller to leave a non positive was withdrawn.

If you are getting claims of item not as described then you may need to look at what you are selling and what your descriptions say. I assume you are taking your own photographs and that these items are just 'stuff' you having lying around the house , which suggests you may have been unintentionally over selling your items.

Actually the buyer said that the description was accurate but that the photograh was not. I just pointed the camera and shot.
The problems is the background colour one chooses for an item can make certain colours show up perhaps more boldly perhaps therefore making it more exciting.

I felt they were trying it on.
