Well, for me it is. This is my first car so never had a need to service before, so dont know what is a good place.

Spoke to a friend who recommented halfords, but I am not too keen to go there after reading so many incidents of halfords here. Another friend recommented a local garage, but I had had a really bad experience there with getting my tyre changed, so dont want t go there either.

So the only other option is to rely on the knowledgable and helpful ppl here!

    thanks

ATA is like an ongoing test to set a standard for mechanics it costs a bit to be accredited so I would not want to lose it by being an !!!! ole.

thyen you have http://www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk/ I dont know much about this one

good garage scheme is easy to enter all you have to do as a garage that is use their products such as fuel treatment and engine flushes, you then get put on the good garage scheme for being a good garage and using their stuff in peoples cars, if you dont use them or the customer refuses the area manager will get cross with said garage and take them off the good garage scheme.

Worth mentioning if you want to retain the service history is take it to a specialist Vauxhall dealer. This can be an independant dealer and definately cheaper.

The servicing costs you have are only for basic stuff like oil and filter change. The service history should have a stamp when last done, the miles on clock now would have to be cross linked to whats involved in that service. ie you could be hit for a cam belt change on top of normal service.

Very few are trustworthy, even dealerships.
Current car bought fully serviced before time has never ever had an oil change! But service history stamped! Similar instances wit other dealerships yet alone garages.
Places i would avoid are the ones that do basic stuff like brakes, exhausts, tyres and mot. Many run ins with these in the past "you need new brake pads and discs" 5 mile before were new beware.

Retain what service history? Its not been serviced for 25 months...

Bit late for that. Just hop they keep it for 10 years +

Otherwise the sale price could be hit badly. I wouldnt touch a car that missed a service. No matter how low the miles.

I think these days your best bet is to pick a garage at random, mark all the parts that should be changed and try not to look like an idiot when you drop off the car.

My local GM dealer will price match on a service and I've used them for all my servicing and MOT since I got my Saab.
Their prices are quite good without the price match. Mine is due this month, main dealer quote £245 inc VAT for a full service ( not the interim one ) Local Saab independant £200 + VAT.

If the SAAB independant is like the one i used many years ago I bet he does a much better job than the dealer though.

A mate wanted me to do some work on his SAAB, I phoned to price the parts up from the specialist & queried the labour charge.

Supply and fit for pennies more than i could source the parts elsewhere.
He did a great job too.

But as always, One good one and 10 bad ones waiting to fleece you.

Hi, I have found these service centres to be about half the labour rate of a main dealer for repairs and they do fixed price servicing.

You really need to look into what you are getting for your money. From your list you should be asking for the price of a 'full service' rather than a 'minor' or 'interim' service.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am thinking of going to a VX independent. I hope I get a good one I can stick with.

    Thanks
