Hi

Hope someone can help.

When I go to control panel and click on Add/Remove software it hangs and i get the following error:

C:\DOCUME~1\EBF03~1.***\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2ecd.dir00\rundll32.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\EBF03~1.***\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2ecd.dir00\appcompat.txt

Does anyone know how to fix it, or could recommend a downloadable fix. I'm resonably good with computers, so I can do a manual fix if someone tells me the buttons to press.

Create a new user account (Control Panel - User Accounts). Make sure it's a computer adminstrator account. Log in with the new account and try Add/Remove again.

Browntoa - It's Microsoft SQL Server that I'm trying to remove. I also want to install Adobe Premiere Elements, but i get the same error trying to run the CD.

Chippy - I only have the one account on the computer, and that's already an admin one. Would a new one really help?

It's worth trying. The error might be because your existing account is corrupted. Hence create a new account just to remove the program and then delete the new account. The fact that you get the same error when installing a new program also points to a corrupt account.
  • As it's Microsoft software, you could try downloading this:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

Install the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility, run it from the start menu, and then select SQL Server from the list of programs it selects.
This tool is excellent at removing corrupted installs, particularly of Microsoft or big-name products.

    I've run CCleaner.

I downloaded msicuu2, but I'm getting the same dll error message when I try to run it.

What's the best way to create a new account?

This is the info I get:

    C:\DOCUME~1\EBF03~1.***\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2ecd.dir00\rundll32.exe.mdmp

The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

    C:\DOCUME~1\EBF03~1.***\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2ecd.dir00\appcompat.txt

refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard
drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that
the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the
Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot
be located, the information might have been moved to a different
    location.

    start, run, appwiz.cpl

    should recreate the appcompat.txt file.

then find it and paste the contents
