Just been catching up on the news on tv before going to bed. As you'll know I am staying at my sister's house while she and hubbie are on their annual 3 weeks holiday to America. They flew into Forth Worth, Texas, and visited Memphis Music Festival before renting a cabin for a week in Tennessee, then stayed in one of the 'shacks' from cotton picking times, before travelling over the Newcastle, Oklahoma to visit friends they made over there for a week before driving back to Texas for their flight home

Where they stay is on the outskirts of Oklahoma City, to the South-South-West. The current tornados hitting Mid-West have been touching down around Oklahoma City. Shawnee town to the East of OK City was devastated on Saturday evening, and further tornadoes last night. Now I see they are hitting the same area again tonight

I emailed my Sis and got this message back:

Yup we were in that tornado watch and thought it would hit here at one point. We were having a fish fry party and when the warnings came on the radio everyone had to dash home for safety. Got a lot of hail damage. it kept on for ages. Had to get on the phone to Alamo and tell them the car has loads of dents in it. Can't believe the damage it's done.
Bad weather forecast for tonight again so keep an eye out.
Having a great time tho. Once the storm passed everyone came back and it was party time again.
Watched the news and saw all the damage at Shawnee. When you're in it you realise how scary it all is.

Then, today, I got a text message from her:

Massive tornado gone through here today but we're all safe in case u see on news

Just watching TV right now though and a tornado over one mile mile wide, could have been up to 2 miles and winds of up to 200 miles per hour, hit around Oklahoma City. They say this is the worst tornado to hit the area for a very long time. I have just checked on google maps and the place decimated tonight is about 3 or 4 miles from where my Sis is  So will be waiting for word from her again tomorrow :(

They are still safe and sound but due to fly back from Forth Worth Texas on Thursday and they stay overnight near the airport the night before. Not sure if it takes them one day or two to drive over from Oklahoma to Forth Worth so would be travelling today or tomorrow, with more tornadoes forecast in the area

I went on FB last night and contacted their friends as they are friends of Sis on there. Said they had seen the tornado last night and it was scary to say the least, and that my sis has video if it. But as I say they are safe and sound but devastating for the area

I chatted to my sister's friend on FB this afternoon and she said my sis and BiL have now left to start their 2 day drive cross-states to Texas, where they stay overnight before their flight home on Friday :D

Evening folks. My sister and her hubbie got home eventually on Friday afternoon, though their plane from Heathrow to Newcastle was delayed due to that other plane having to make emergency landing due to engine fire, so they were nearly 3 hours late getting back here

And they had so many tales to tell of tornadoes   Very close and very scary, being in shelter with metal doors above them being beaten by the wind, seeing destruction around, etc. Now my niece and family are off to Portugal tomorrow for their holidays

I had felt that I would have been able to drive home on Saturday to get spare meds from home and then arrange to see my own doctor to sort out my knee. However, I started really struggling again, with pain mainly at front of knee, in fact both knees, and painful to walk. Nothing like at the start, but struggling just the same. So I have stayed up here and managed to get more meds to see me through, but that was quite a hassle

I rang the local walk-in centre to check they were open and that I could get prescription here, explaining that I was visiting area and had run out of some of my meds plus need repeat of some issued by A&E 3 weeks ago. They stated that they could not give me meds if they were on my normal repeat and that I had to ring 111, which I did. After going through check list with them, they advised me to visit the walk-in centre at **/hill, the one I had contacted  I explained what had happened and they couldn't believe that the walk-in centre had refused to help me, so they said they would contact Jarrow walk-in centre (the other side of the Tyne and would need to go through Tyne Tunnel to get there), so he said a doctor from there would ring me to sort something out. The doc from there rang me 15 minutes later and I explained things to him, and again, he was shocked that @@/hill walk in centre had refused to help, and thought they might have thought that I was local but I confirmed that the first thing I had told them was that I was visiting the area  Anyway, he said that he would contact out-of-hours doctors at North Tyneside General Hospital and they would ring me with an appointment, which they did 10 minutes later, for 4.30 pm

I went down with my sister and, after 15 minute wait, I saw a lovely doctor who then wrote me a prescription of all the meds I needed plus 2 x elastic bandages to support my knee. This means that I am now back on anti-inflammatories plus tramadol for the pain, and I can feel the difference already. Still had a lot of pain during the night, but much better moving around during the day

I am therefore moving over to my niece's house tomorrow (it is only round the corner) and will see how it goes. Will still have the stairs to struggle with, but she does at least have a second loo, downstairs ;) I will see about driving home as soon as I am up to it

Hope everyone is well. Weather been really nice last couple of days which allowed my sister to get all her holiday washing done :D
