Please help an android app novice

A friend has an htc wildfire. All was set up for her in the shop and had a few apps put on for her apparently.

I'm trying to get her to download the skype app.

We got as far as the choosing to install bit and she got a message saying that it will be downloaded ( but when?).

No indication that it was being downloaded and when she went to her list of apps there was no sign of skype.

What could have gone wrong?
I'm an iphone user so unfamiliar with android way of things. It must be simple but didn't want to play about with someone else's phone.

Any pointers I can give her?

Are you trying to download from the Play store app on the phone or via the store web site?

I'm not with her at the moment but I watched her choose 'market' from the top right of her home screen on her phone.
She then typed in 'skype' in the search bit.

She then chose it by touching 'free' and then 'install' I think.

A momentary message appeared saying 'app will be downloaded' and that was it.....
No sign of the skype app.

Is she logged-in with her email ?

you need to be logged-in both sides Market and Phone

No I didn't see her put an email address anywhere or even get a request to do so. That sounds like the issue then. Thanks.

With Android, unlock the iPhone, you also need to find the app in your Apps menu, rather than it just appearing on your home screen. Once you find it there, you can then drag the icon onto your home screen.

If it's downloading ok, she should have a black bar across the top of the screen. This will show if it's downloading or not. You can then drag this bar down to watch the progress. She would then find it by pressing the ^ arrow on the screen which should take her into "All Apps"

No that definitely did not happen. I'll need to sit with her and look at the phone again after reading these posts.

You might also need to upgrade the market, it's google play now.... Just tried to dl skype to see if it would work on that handset, handset is old by today's standards, but it went without any problems.

No sign of the skype app.

After pressing Install, you should see 'Accept and Download' which you press to accept the permissions ( rather than app will be downloaded )
