Ebay problems.!!

Hi I bought a pair of speakers from ebay that was described as used, but as new.. The reason for sale is he's moving out soon and thats why he was selling the speakers..
I offered the seller a £140 for them and he accepted and he ended his auction early..
I went to pick them up from the seller who lives just 10mins from me..
I tested them out the next day and found the tweeter of the speaker wasn't working.
So I phoned up the seller and asked for a refund.. He said it could be my fault that i had damaged the speakers.. And he wants to take the speakers to test them out - But then he'll have my money and the speakers Also he told he might be moving at the beginning of the week..

So I'm asking for advice here what should I do?

Is the seller trying to bump me or shall I get the police involved.. Or shall I go round demanding my money back?

  • i wouldnt get the police involved, its a civil dispute rather than a criminal offence!!

take them back over to his place, show him whats wrong with them and try and work something out between the two of you

    Yeah your right -

He wants to come to mine now to hear the speakers -

    shall i let him?
  • make sure you have someone there with you incase he tries something odd, a few baseball bats for insurance too (joke!)

if he's willing to come over to your place then he's showing a willingness to resolve the problem, that can only be good

So long as you feel safe letting him in you house... I WOULD say have some friends there that can hover in the kitchen having a cuppa or something very unthreatening! Make sure you're safe but also don't create a threatening situation :)

If you paid cash then definitely DON'T let him walk away with them... you have NO comeback! If you paid by paypal then he can take them unless you signed a "I have recieved these speakers" receipt. Because if he doesn't refund you then you can start a "non-receipt" dispute on paypal (IF you used paypal)

Hi Razor - the guy said he'll come round on monday to sort this out as he didn't have the money on him today..

He offered to come round today but I told him wait till he gets the money and bring it with him..

    I'll keep everyone posted though..
  • why did you not test them before you handed over the cash ??

its one of the benifits of cash on collection.

    Hi Littleoldme,

I didn't test them out as he never had a amplifier to test them out on- it's only when i got home and tested them out the next day i realised..
  • i feel its one of those ticky ones.
    buyer saying they damaged
    seller saying they were fine.

i hope it all go alright for you and you and the seller can come to some arrangement :)
