Apologies if I am wrong on this but isn't that the sort of thing DLA is to pay for. If you are getting HRM then that would enable you to purchase one wouldn't it?

I fully understand why you ask but the DLA has got somewhat swallowed up.

Yes I get HRM & MRC and why would I use it to buy something that could be provided for me free. I don't feel that charitable especially as the DLA is used to pay for things I was previously able to do for myself like getting someone in to do the garden, cleaning as my wife has her own health problems which stop her doing it like she used, decorating, odd jobs in the house & garden, extra water usage as I need more showers, extra fuel usage as I am rarely out of the house, home shopping deliveries as unable to go shopping, Taxis to hospital £20 each way as I can no longer drive and my wife who normally does is often not able due to her problems.

These are things off the top of my head but I am on no other benefit and haven't been since having to stop work five years ago and I think it is about time I had some support in my latter stage of life.

You may not agree but this is my beliefs and sorry if we clash on it.

Hiya, I was going through this process last year. I know how things are going for you...

It is a long process, you are assessed, then your chair is delivered, you have training for indoors only, then you have a medical assessment for outdoor use, then you have training, you pass an exam that lasts an hour and that's it. Until you pass the outdoor test at the end, you cannot use your chair outdoors. Took me about 2-3 months to get mine and I was in a hurry to get it for university. Before that 18 hours of my everyday life was spent in an armchair so I had no need for it until then. If no pressure is applied, I don't know how long it would take. It has def made my life a million times better, I was going crazy not being able to go anywhere I wanted , when I wanted. Not that I could do much but the change of scenery from one room to the other was a godsend. I go into town now, I go to the post office, I travel on trains it's great :D

And this is why the "entitlement" culture has got way out of hand.

And WHY has it got out of hand because I haven't got the £800 - £1,000 cost/s. I can't save this amount of money from my DLA the only thing I claim and which most of it is spent as outlined in my earlier post or would you like a fuller spreadsheet. It is being used for the purpose it is given and it is not conditional how it is spent. So are you suggesting conditions be imposed?

So again why has it got out of hand in my case?

PS Trolls like you are so tiresome

You have a point. If the government didn't think it was necessary, there would be no facility for people to get that help. If you have an issue with it, take it up with your MP pickpocketlocket. What you may not realise is the cost of being disabled. My electricity bills are huge compared to people in my city. I have wheelchairs and a multitude of electrical equipment to charge. I have travel to pay to uni and back at £24 a day because I can't get my wheelchair onto a bus. I have refills and maintenance of my day to day aids, new equipment that needs tobebought which isn't always given due to budgeting of the NHS, medications not given by the NHS the list goes on. Without all this help we would have no dignity, no independence and an altogether depressing existence. Could you imagine not being able to bathe everyday or even once a week because you can't get into the bath and the council can't pay for adaptations? I haven't had a bath for months and ely on baby wipes. Having to rely on someone else's good nature to help you? I am dependant on my partner and sometimes he just doesn't have the energy to help me and I have to deal with it and if I can't then it's just tough luck. Pray you aren't ever like us and be happy we have some quality of life. It isn't like we have luxuries that are our own. Did you know that the mutability scheme doesn't actually give you a car, they just loan it to you. We have no freebies, believe me.

I completely understand, sorry if I put you in a position whereby you had to explain your finances. I hope you get the help you deserve without having to fight too hard for it.

    Firstly well said.

Second I am so sorry you are having to go through your life like this. It sounds horrendous and so my best of wishes. At least I lived most of my life in a reasonable state of health but just in latter years my legs failing me and needing my wife to help with dressing & bathing, etc.

I have no worries explaining in some detail to genuine posters to further the understanding of living my sort of life including the financial difficulties. Even though my bodies condition is well below par I still have a very strong mental state to rebuff sarcasm. What gets me are the posters who throw in sarcastic one liners like pickpocket - UGH!

Every time I post I wait for the first troll and they do come along regularly so no wonder many genuine people are put off posting.

If he's reading this I have been given further things FREE in last few weeks since the OT visit. Aids to help me dress, help me get on and off the toilet, help me get in and out of bed and a few other bits :D
