So whose got a PS3 then????

Sony must really be hoping that Blu-Ray beats HD DVD in the format wars because I have heard they are reported to be losing £300 on each console in order to make sure everyone has a Blu-Ray drive. As far as the differences between PS3 and Xbox, I very much doubt there is a huge difference between them, although the PS3 does include the Blu-Ray drive whereas the Xbox needs an external HD-DVD drive to be able to play HD discs as far as I'm aware, or that might only be applicable to the cheaper one?
Personally I think £425 is a ridiculous amount to pay for a console but then I've never really been into them that much. I'll dust off my Megadrive and play a bit of Sonic instead0 -
i have had them all over the years , i still think you cant beat nintendo for the high colour games they have produced over the years ,and most importantly they are affordable , and family orientated ,the biggest problem with the ps3 is the price , how many parents are going to let young kids hammer it as they do the ps2, and psone @ over £400 ,The younger kids pester power is what sells the games , which determine whether it a sucess for the manufactures , and i think its just too expensive ,
I don't really think the PS3 is aimed at the younger kids0 -
why bother with blue ray drive ? most second tvs these consoles will be played on by the kids wont be hi -def for years , and by then the dvd players will be £50.00 at tescos ,Seems these are aimed more at older teens and young adults with more money than sense , who must have the latest fashion , FOR GODS SAKE ITS A GAMES CONSOLE !0

I know what you are saying turtle2k1 but its the kids that buy the games that make it a sucess , young adults aren't volume buyers , they would have done better making a good console with better graphics for around £200 -£300 (like the xbox ) and selling their blue ray seperate , If blue ray isn't a success , you have spent a lot extra for nothing0

So with all the hype, all the controversy...who picked up one of sony's box of tricks yesterday then?
Also:
What are the games like?
What are the films like?
How does it compare to the Xbox 360 & the Wii?
At £425...do you really get a lot of kit for your cash, or is it a waste of money?
Your thoughts and comments are welcome.
Bought Virtual Tennis 3 and downloaded Tekken DR HD. Graphics are superb but the 'photo realistic' close up shots of the players in VT3 are kinda weird/freaky.
On the film side I've not tested any on it - will use the free copy of Casino Royale to test it out when I get it.
I've got a Xbox 360 and a Wii.
Xbox 360 graphics aren't as good, but its online offering is better. Controllers for the PS3 are featherlight compared to the xbox controllers, and feel a lot more comfortable after a prolonged gaming session whereas the xbox one feels really uncomfortable. Also has internet browser built into it so seeing as I only ever use my pc to check emails and post on forums I might just sell my PC.
The wii novelty factor wears off quickly but is still great when you got a bunch of mates around, other than that though, a poor selection of games that don't really do much let it down.
I only paid £382.50 for mine as I got 10% student discount at Virgin so I'm quite happy with what I've spent and what I got for it. It cost me £280 + £60 (wireless adapter) + £10 (plug + charge kit) = £350 to get what I got in the PS3 box.
Add to the fact that if I wanted the seperate HD-DVD drive for the xbox (I wouldn't because no games are released in that format) then thats another £130 which would take it to £480 which would make it £55 more than a non discounted PS3.
So only reason to get a 360 is greater availability of games and cheaper start up cost (technically), and better online service.
Only reason for Wii is family based fun + its rather cheap
Reason to get PS3 is to get everything in 1.penniesmakepounds wrote: »Does anyone know if I bought a PS3 from Dubai (60GB retailing at 2499 UAE Dirhams - £347 to you and me) will it work in the uk with uk games??
Games are region 3 - only blue ray movies are region locked. Don't think the warranty is upheld in England though so you would have to check that out.0 -
....If the uptake on PS3 is low, sony will have to revise their strategy and reduce their costs if they are to retain there monopoly on the gaming industry...
the gaming market never did have a sole provider when Sony came into the frame, so they cannot retain thier monopoly as they were never in that stituation and no gaming company will be either in the future.0
