I guess time will tell if it's going to be a success or not, sony are pinning a lot of there hopes on what is the "playstation" brand, but it is to be successful the games are going to have to live up to expectation and also it's other feature blu-ray....If the uptake on PS3 is low, sony will have to revise their strategy and reduce their costs if they are to retain there monopoly on the gaming industry...but that will remain to be seen if they do indeed lower their prices...They should at least bring the pricing in-line with the US and Japanese versions which I think are around the £300 mark, if that was the case they would fly off the shelves!!!normskiuk0

I total Agree with that if anythink our ps3 should be bit cheaper than the usa and jap as they dont have the ps2 chip in.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
i've got one, partly as a PS2 replacement (i'm addicted to tony hawk games) but mainly as it is a multimedia console, i mean its a pc, blu-ray player, dvd player and games console all in one.
and as for the ps2 chip, you need to download software to the machine for it to be able to play the games.0 -
Four months on from the Wii launch and its still a bit difficult to get a hold of one. A friend of mine just walked into Game now and bought a ps3 just a couple of days after its launch.....something missing0

The big question is...what are they like? the games and the films? All the reviews I have seen of the hardware say it's amazing bit of kit, but the price tag is the stumbling block.normskiuk0

My local PC World, Game and GameStation all had plenty of these in stock. My personal reasons for not getting one were..
1. I've already got a 360.
2. It's damn expensive.
3. You're paying for a BlueRay drive which may or may not beat HD
4. It looks pretty ugly.
5. The UK version is less backwards compatible than the US PS3. Though I guess it still does play more previous gen titles than the 360.The big question is...what are they like? the games and the films? All the reviews I have seen of the hardware say it's amazing bit of kit, but the price tag is the stumbling block.
The concensus seems to be that it looks by and large as good as the 360 - there's a handy comparison of the two consoles playing Oblivion here and the PS3 beats the 360 in some areas, in others the 360 beats it. It's certainly the games that make a console worth having. The 3D0, for example, was an awesomely powerful bit of kit compared to its competition, but the games were just rubbish. It looks like most of the major games such as GTA 4, Devil May Cry 4 and Mercenaries 2 will hit both consoles.0 -

To be honest most people do not know/care what they are like, they are simply too expensive.
10's of thousands of people would buy one without trying it out first if they were priced lower. I have not played one, but would go out and get one tomorrow if they were £300-£350Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
I got my at Thursday at midnight, mum thought I was mad!!
The graphics are better than X box 360 can ever do. The games are amazing especially virtual fighter 5, resistance fall of man and genji days of the blade.
I am currently at Uni studying Computer Games Development.
Enjoy, I am!!! Did have to save all my birthday and christmas money up and sell my PS2 games and console. Mum still thinks I am mad!0 -
i have had them all over the years , i still think you cant beat nintendo for the high colour games they have produced over the years ,and most importantly they are affordable , and family orientated ,the biggest problem with the ps3 is the price , how many parents are going to let young kids hammer it as they do the ps2, and psone @ over £400 ,The younger kids pester power is what sells the games , which determine whether it a sucess for the manufactures , and i think its just too expensive ,0
