routers differ from modems in that they act like a separate pc with built-in modem - they'll stay online all the time unless you a) unplug them or b) shut down the connection manually in the settings (accessed through an internet browser connection)

Don't know if your netgear router is the same as mine but try clicking on this:

    http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=st_poe.htm

then login using your router login and password (if necessary)

That brings up my netgear router connection control where I can select to disconnect.
If it works then just bookmark it and you can control your connection from that

    hth

    :)

I ran my computer for about a year without the AOL software. I only put it back on last week when I had a connection problem and had to use Live Help - and they just told me to call in :rotfl:

You never needed AOL to get on the internet, they just make you feel that you do, to pass all the traffic through their portal.

Although I don't know why you'd want to do a manual disconnection. If you really wanted to disconnect, it's a lot easier to unplug the power to the router. To sign back in, simply plug the router in again.
