Overgrown garden - Where do i start?

I had an awful lot of garden refuse when I moved into the current house.
I put it all in a pile in a corner and let it reduce down. Eventually I had a couple of bonfires. Sorted :beer:0 -
I just revisted this and looked at the pictures and agree with the poster above.
ie, this is a very small problem, I thought you had inherited a jungle?
but that's not the case from the above.
One point, if you do decide to use weed killer forget the stuff from the garden centre, it's beenso dumbed down as to be absolutely useless.
The stuff that worked has been banned as the bomb makers took a like to it,;)
So your general glyphoshate weedkiller, roundup and such like, that won't lie around in the ground preventing replanting, is commercially available in a strength of 80, cant remember the units.
Go to ebay, the stuff is readily and legally available as 360 strength, 4 and a half times as strong, that stuff works, :TI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

The front hedge is almost as bad. I have a few plans for it. I would like a large shed and maybe grow some fruit and veg. But first i need to turn it from a jungle into a garden. She was there for seven years and never touched it so you can imagine the state its in. I have never done any gardening work before and i have no idea how to start. What tools will i need? Is it worth buying used tools? How do i level it for a shed (if necessary). All advice and tips gratefully appreciated.
Ring crimestoppers, tell the story you heard in the pub about a body being dumped etc....and give them your addressthey won't turf it when they leave, but you can always arrange that after they have cleared it

That's just a bit weedy, hardly overgrown at all. I was imagining ten foot high brambles but that, as others have said, is a garden that's been maintained till perhaps a year ago. The hedge just needs a tidy up and if you strim down the weeds then dig the roots out you won't even need weedkiller. Don't let it run to seed though, you'll have x10 the problem to deal with.
A few general gardening books out the library wouldn't go amiss either. There's no great secret to gardening other than to do it regularly.Val.0 -

Thought I was the only one old enough to remember the old adage;
"One years seed, 7 years weed"
It's not this years weeds that are the problem, it's their spawn,;)

Hard to tell the size of the garden, but you could hire a petrol hedge trimmer and a strimmer plus a mini-skip to chuck all the clippings into.
Then glyphosate the weeds and again in a few weeks.
Assumes you are quite fit and able of course!0
