I'm really worried because I think someone has tried to access my computer remotely. I have had alot of phone calls with people saying ' my computer is infected and I need to download software for them to beable to fix it for me' needless to say I tell them I don't even have a computer so they must be mistaken and hang up . But today I noticed a strange user name and password listed under my Wi Fi passwords for my router , as well as my passwords for my routers that I set and know are mine is one listed as Flex Repairs , after alot of searching on-line I found a very dodgy looking website with no contact details ( http://www.flexpcrepair.com/remote.php ) I'm really worried that someone has tried to connect to my computer remotely . I'm going to contact my ISP tomorrow other than that I don't what else to do as I have no experience with this sort of thing. I have antivirus ( AVG) and I use the windows firewall that comes with windows 7. Sorry I posted this here I didn't know where to post as it's a little off topic. I've read on here MSE that people have had issues with cold callers claiming their computer is infected and telling them to download software to deal with it and even so I never downloaded any -thing I'm worried an attempt has been made by some dodgy company to do just that so any advice would great from anyone with knowledge or experience of this issue. thanks.

The list that your wireless router can see are the other wireless networks within range (i.e. your neighbour's networks).
How many routers do you have?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
hi macman, I have two routers but I'm only using one at the moment, both passwords for both routers are still saved on my system . The only reason I came across this extra Wi Fi password was because I was uploading all my passwords on to my lasspass password manager vault because it encrypts all my passwords and is safer than just using the in-built browser password manager and as I was uploading all my passwords I noticed an unusual Wi Fi password connected to my router . As I have only ever used two routers ( my 1st router and my current router ) I'm wondering where and what is this password why is on my system and my biggest worry has some-one being trying to connect to my system , and of coarse who are Flex Repair?0

firstly i would change all network passwords and computer ones as well just to be sure another thing to do is make alpha numeric as well most people use 1 password that is short and easy to hack.
also go into pc settings and turn off remote connection as well.
imho avg is a pile of rubbish i have known 3 people all got caught out on in it but this is what i have seen you will get others swear black is blue its the best thing since sliced bread. i disagree
you would be better off with kaspersky £21.98 for a year 3user here
to turn off remote access
windows icon bottom left of screen
control panel
system icon
top left of screen 'remote settings'
remote assistance untick box at top with 'allow remote assistance connections to this computer' firstly then at bottom of same window marked remote desktop
you want to dot the option 'don't allow connections to this computer'. then click the apply button on the bottom of that window.
close all windows down.
also you could do with some anti-malware as well by the sound of it as antivirus's don't cover it all i would suggest and it is free.

click on free download, when installed click on update tab and update and click check for updates then after updated click scanner tab run a full scan and see what is buried on your computer you will be surpised what will be buried on it malware is big business and get your info is what they are after.
anyway the free version you must always update first then scan.
hope this helps you out.

From what you are saying I don't think they've actually been on your computer.
It looks like they have just linked to your Wi-Fi at some point.
Set your wireless security and change your password to something long with a mix of upper / lower case alpha and numeric characters.
I agree that Kaspersky is a much better antivirus, but why pay for it? Open a Barclays bank account, keep it active by putting small amounts in and out occasionally and register for online banking. Free Kaspersky as part of it.0 -

(And that's without trying to get an older and cheaper version, which can be upgraded to the latest version via a large-but-free download...)0 -
just to save £12 a year
Your money, your choice. Only offering an option.0 -
More than £12's-worth of effort, IMHO...!0

Thank-you all very much for your great advice .
johnmc I have changed my password and basil you advice was great I have unchecked the ' allow remote access' box in my control panel and I feel alot safer for doing them 2 actions. I already have malwarebytes , I should have mentioned it when I first posted but it is a great little bit of freeware and always worth mentioning .Also thanks for the advice regarding Kaspersky, I've never been keen on on-line banking but I'll bear it in mind because I'm sure in the future banking will become like everything else and you'll have to do it on-line whether you want to or not, I'm just scared of on-line banking but one day I'll have to move with the times and start doing it , I admit it would be easier.
Thanks again everyone and I hope you all have a great day :T0 -

They do.
Antivirus software will detect viruses, trojans, worms and all other subsets of malware.
What Malwarebytes have done is built a niche for themselves by going after the malware that antivirus programs don't detect, or are slow to add definitions/signatures for, or fail remove well enough.
It's a good scanner to have as a back up to an AV - in case it does miss something. What Malwarebytes (currently) can't do - and what an antivirus program does do - is remove viral code attached to legitimate files, but antivirus software does protect from all types of malware.0 -
