Hi,
I have a panasonic hdd recorder with a USB port. I want to connect my iPad to it in the hope I might be able to watch the Internet through the iPad on the tv or possibly download recordings from my panasonic to the iPad to watch elsewhere.
When I plug the USB to iPad cable into the devises the iPad registers/acknowledges that it is connected to something as it comes up saying it is not charging.
Can anyone tell me if there is an option to link these devises via this connection method(the USB/iPad connector cable)?
Thank you

I don't have an apple tv. Are the panasonic and iPad not likely to be compatible?0

Indeed, one of the drawbacks to apple0

To be fair, the usb ports on most TVs or DVD recorders are only for service use or compatible only with specific devices. For example recent Sony TVs can record to a USB stick or use a proprietary WIFI dongle. Your Ipad or even a PC is most unlikely to have a suitable driver or even correctly recognise an HDD recorder or TV.
You can usually charge your phone or power small USB devices from them though!

I believe you can get an HDMI adaptor for the IPAD0

I'm looking at the manual, and p.17 tells you what's compatible with the Panasonic USB port. There's no mention of iPads in the list.
Do you have the manual?0 -
On most devices, unless they were specifically designed to work with the iPad, you will probably only be able to get at the photos on the iPad. If the HDD recorder can view photos on a USB memory card, then it might be possible to look at your pictures.
Forget about anything else with these two devices.
As suggested above, Apple TV is worth a look, but you need to study very carefully which of it's features require what other devices (e.g. do you need an Apple desktop/laptop to get at recorded material?) and also how expensive what you might want to use is. Nothing is free with Apple.
HDMI cable adapter would let you connect direct to your TV (if it has a HDMI). The iPad 3 works really well on a TV.
