Karlsson Chase opinions?

So, a few weeks ago I was called up out of the blue by someone from Karlsson Chase wanting to talk to me about investing in shares in the Carbon Offset market. I wouldn't normally talk to someone in this way (it was a blocked number but I was waiting for a GP call which is also number withheld) but was interested enough to give them my address to send me details.

Since then, about 4 times they have called and have been very pushy. The first time the guy launched into a presumptive close type spiel and I put them off by a week to give me time to read the info they sent. The second time (and every time since) the guy introduced himself as one of the senior guys blah blah and launched into another closing speech. When I wasn't ready to talk went on about some market occurence in a week and if I was 'serious' I would talk now. If I hadn't been off guard I would have snapped back that I had never claimed I was 'serious' just that I would look at their info.......very pushy..... The third and fourth times were similarly pushy announcing what they were going to talk about without first asking me if it was a good time to talk - which it wasn't.

Right now, I think that the next time that they call I will just say that I'm not interested and not to call me again. After all, if I did want to buy shares associated with carbon offsets, I'm sure I could do it independently.

Anyhow, I was just interested to see if anyone else has been approached by these people and if they have acted similarly?

Thanks. :)

I considered that as well.....which of course interests me all the more as I'd love to help ensnare them.....not that it's likely.

When my gf was defrauded by someone using her CC details to buy champagne from Laithwaite's a delivery was due the next day to the address they gave....but the bank and the police had no interest in trying to apprehend the culprits....

It is most certainly (from what you have said) a complete scam. If something like that was genuine, you would never get a Cold Call.

Yes, there are authorities that would be interested in you referring the details of what yolu know/have been told/sent.

I suggest you search the forum for exact links (gosh knows plenty here) or contact the fraud office and regulators to add this lot to their warning lists.

I don't know it can be fun to wind them up if I can spare the time (keep them waiting on hold etc). I think of it as a public service the longer I keep the !!!!!!s on the phone the less chance they have of duping those who are are more vulnerable to these types of scams.

And one I got of here is if I think it's a boiler room type scam, let them waste their time thinking they've sucked you in by playing along and when you have had enough of their spiel turn around and ask them -
is it hot in the boiler room?

Absolutely 100% scam. Do not part with any money to these people as you will not see it again.

If you are absolutely clear that you are never going to invest any money with them the only benefit from repeatedly talking to them is that you are taking up their time and preventing them from scamming somebody else.

To repeat what is frequently mentioned here:

    1) Genuine investment companies do not cold call

    2) If it sounds too good to be true then it almost certainly is!
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • If you want more information, just search this board for 'carbon' and you will find a lot, including some amusing suggestions for dealing with cold callers. You are not alone: there are many such attempts to get people involved with carbon trading.

'WHICH' had an interesting article, but the link does not work any more. It confirmed what MSE people say about not getting involved.

Have you not seen "The Boiler Room" It's a good film.

Basically it goes along the lines of cold calling to try to seller the suckers shares. If anyone "cold calls" to sell you this kind of stuff, it's a scam.

Why? If the reasons are still valid, I think you answered your own question!
