I had a couple of great days in London, one of the highlights for me was people smiling and chatting on the tube, TFL Staff offering help with bags and steps. The other highlight was of course the sport and the amazing job that has been made of the park, the organisation etc etc..

I am so pleased someone has started this thread. I was totally sceptical and not looking forward to the travelling at all. I can hand on heart say travelling to events has been less stressful than a usual weekend visit to London. I have not encountered 1 member of staff who has not been pleasant, understanding & helpful beyond duty. Whoever sorted the stations with entrance and exit thoroughfares THANK YOU, to every person who has helped to put some pride back into Britain & from a doubter/pessimist
    A MASSIVE THANK YOU:T:T:T:T:T:T:A
    KIND REGARDS

That's the strangest thing about London at the moment - people are talking to each other on the Tube. Usually that behaviour is enough to get you arrested.

I'm sure everyone there felt much better with the army doing the job that a bunch of kids from G4S with 5 minutes training.

Totally agree with this comment....in fact I think G4S may have done the country/Olympics a favour by being so disorganised.

As I said to someone this weekend, if there was a reason for the security staff to be needed in an emergency I would want people who wouldn't run away / buckle in the panic.

yeah up here the volunteers on the short walk between Mount Florida & Hampden were brilliant, especially with the kids walking through (although I'm not sure how many parents appreciated them getting their kids hyper). It was mostly G4S security though, but I guess a lot of that was down to them handling the football there regularly so it's a pretty well rehearsed operation.

The BBC did a piece on them today and it looked like a lot of the troops were pretty happy to be part of it all and were being given a ton of support from people visiting Olympic Park.

  • Huge huge thank you to all troops and volunteers, they have made the Olympics. Well done to the USA beach volleyball girls too, who went round and high fived all the volunteers after a recent victory. Nice to see that they appreciated everything.

Yes, it's been nice to see how many athletes have thanked the volunteers. I suppose after this we'll be back to surly, grunting footballers :(

Goodness, yes! I was genuinely delighted by the attitude of the volunteers - I was expecting a bit of polite this and that, but their enthusiasm was properly infectious and an absolute treat. I'm quite sure those out of the public eye would have been working just as hard as well, so well were the games run. A big thank you to all of them!

I only watched the opening ceremony the other day and noticed that the French chief chap made a point of thanking the volunteers which I thought was rather nice.
A friend of my hubby said someone in his family was in charge of the plastic box for Mr. Bolt (clothes) and just happened to comment on his nice cap and Mr.Bolt gave it to him, how nice is that.
Great games all round I think and special thanks for me to the volunteers too.

Are the games makers going to be around for the para games?
I really hope so, as it seems they made such a difference and helped people find their way etc!
