As this board is specifically for people going to the Olympics, I wondered if I could start a thread to say thanks to the volunteer Games Makers who are helping make the games so special and to our troops for keeping us safe.
I went to archery at Lords this morning. The Games Makers lined the route from St John's Wood Station to the ground and were really welcoming. They had big pink foam hands to point us in the right direction and helped put everyone in a good mood.
Once inside, security was all handled by the a great team of Army guys from Paderborn in Germany who made us feel safe. I only saw 1 non-army security person.
DH has also been to an event and said exactly the same about the the Games Makers and to the troops at the Olympic Park. So a big thanks to everyone for giving your time to help make our days special.

Brilliant idea. Our Olympic Torch day was a very special experience as I wanted it to be. Not for me but for the others in my party for reasons I won't go into but suffice to say these are important memories being made for my party so any fun along the way is supporting my mission. So well done and thank you to anyone who helps make others days memorable and pleasant whilst still getting the important jobs like security and shepherding to venues done.0

We went to Olympic Park & North Greenwich Arena yesterday and the volunteers and troops were amazing.
They were so positive, chatty and friendly and I really believe this Olympics would not have happened without them.
You are all a major asset to the Olympics and to this country.
If any of you read this - a MASSIVE THANK YOU to you all.

Greta idea OP.
Yesterday we were lucky enough to have tickets for 3 events at 3 different venues, so went to the Excel arena, the basketball arena and horseguards.
The volunteer games makers and the army personnel were simply outstanding. They made a special day extra special for all of us. Absolutely superb, every one of them and a big Thank You from us.Pants0 -
Just want to give another thanks. This time for the Games Makers and troops at Horseguards who contributed to a fantastic time at Beach Volleyball. The Games Makers were such good fun, organising a Mexican wave off between the two queues, high fiving conga lines, it was quite surreal. Plus they told us where to go, in the nicest possible way of course... Meanwhile the troops were great, we were processed through quickly, efficiently and with smiles from the great guys, again from Germany.

See quite a few troops around London on R&R, loads of us beep at them with thumbs up. Hopefully they all realise how much we all value them especially in contrast to the transport staff whose only concern was screwing more money out of their employers and holding us to ransom.

Yes, the volunteers and troops were - without exception - absolutely fantastic. Each and every one of them is a huge credit to the country.
The queues may have been long but they were processed quickly, professionally and in good humour. I'm sure everyone there felt much better with the army doing the job that a bunch of kids from G4S with 5 minutes training.0 -
Another well done they are quick to offer help to people looking lost and the maps they give out are good as well"what lies behind us & what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us" Ralph Waldo Emerson0

I have to say well done to all the staff and helpers we met on the tube and overground DLR. I've been on tube enough to be able to see there was a huge increase in platform staff. Very visible. Very helpful. Knowledgeable about the lifts, platforms, venues, services & stations etc. Wanting to be there which I think gives a good vibe. I don't know what terms and conditions they are on so I'm not gonna get hung up on bonuses etc but they were platform staff and so well done to them. They may be doing their job but I like to think most people go to work to do a good job and it's easy to complain so good work should be appreciated. All civilian helpers & civilian security were helpful & polite & processed us quickly at Excel. My rucksack intermested them but i just let them get on with looking into it. Weren't rude like some Airport staff i've experienced in my time. The army were great escorting my family to find us when one of my party was unwell & the civilian supervisor was professional & confident & sensible when making sure we didn't need first aid. The police weere really friendly and positive and were plentiful when we were sightseeing near our hotel & looking for the restaurant. All in all if I was a foreign visitor I would've been impressed so credit where it's due to everyone doing their part whether civilian or military.0

Another thanks to the Troops and Games Makers from us!
Also not forgetting the police who have also been an integral part of the games. We were talking to some officers at the Barracks who were drafted in from Fife Constabulary, nice chaps they were too.
Thanks for making our games a safe and enjoyable experience.0 -
DH went to the stadium on Friday evening and again said that the Games Makers were fantastic and the troops were really efficient at getting people into the site.
Yesterday we went to Wembley for the football. There were far fewer Games Makers there and no troops that we saw. The atmosphere was noticeably different as a result: I really missed having lots of Games Makers around, though those that were there were great as always! As always, the police were also fantastic and helped get us out of the stadium, though it took even longer than usual as there was also Badminton on at the Arena.
Thanks again to everyone for making our day out a safe and enjoyable one! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
