Best data tariff for tablets

I have an E173 dongle and need to find the best value sim that offers the most data. I have used giffgaff but £5 buys 500mb of data (lasts 30 days). I have seen some 3 sims on ebay preloaded with data approx £11 for 3 gig. Has anyone tried these please?
Not keen on singing up for a contract as I use the tablet on wi-fi at home but it would be useful to have the internet when I am away from home.
All help appreciated
Thanks
Richard

Hi Richard,
I've spent a ridiculous amount of time looking at this issue, this week.
I've just started a thread after yours re an excellent deal that I struck with 3 yesterday for a huge 15gb per month for £15 pm (their published rates are 10gb for £15 which is still a 'best buy'), both on a rolling 30 day contract.
If you don't need as much data, Orange are offering proper Pay as You go, but it is expensive at 5.1p per mb.
Alternatively, as an in-between, Orange are offering 250mb for £5 per month (30 day contract) BUT this also comes with 10gb of BT wi-fi (which is headlined as 'unrestricted', but read the small print).
For anyone that has used 'free' BT wi-fi however, you'll know that the speed is very, very unreliable.
So, it depends upon the amount of data you'll need & of course, whether or not you'll be using your tablet in a 3 reception area (which is much improved these days)!

I have the Ovivo tablet sim. Costs £5 to buy but gives 1gb free a month, then 6p per mb and is ad funded.0

What is Ovivo Mobile?
Ovivo Mobile is what is known as a Mobile Virtual Network. Our service is basically like other mobile phone services, but we are an independent company, using Vodafone UK’s network. We are a SIM only, Pre-Paid mobile service, which means that you don’t need to sign up to any contracts or make any long term commitments to our service.
Why is Ovivo Mobile different from other services?
Ovivo Mobile breaks from the traditional method of providing phone services. By signing up to our service, you give us permission to use your data for marketing and analytical purposes. Using this information, we will push mobile advertising in a non-intrusive manner to your phone. By doing this, we are able to give each of our customers a generous amount of free usage each month, with no monthly commitment or minimum top-ups for our core service.0 -
Richard, the deal you originally mentioned (3UK PAYG) but a 12Gb 12month SIM which you can purchase for under £50 on eBay is excellent valur, and once you use it up you can throw it away, or buy another. No contract, no risk to your credit file and you remain in charge.
Having to go through a walled garden of adverts leaves you at their mercy, and I just cannot be bothered with it when I need an unrestricted connection.0 -

We got an Ovivo sim for occasional use on the ipad. Had it for 5 weeks now and its been great.
Adverts are supposedly every 15mins or after a set amount of data, but to be honest, you can just cancel the X no problems at all. No more than the pop ups you get with Windows on a pc.
Highly recommend!0 -
https://www.ovivo.com seems ok, only had it a few days but seems ok and the adverts are easy to skip.
Also don't buy your Three Network Data sims from eBay / Amazon do like these sellers do and buy them direct from Three but via Quidco.
The Sims (3Gb/3Month) from Three are £20.49 and the Cashback from Quidco is £12.50 therefore the Sim costs £7.99 and I've always been paid out from Quidco (just takes a few months).0
