Autotrader or ebay
Options
Hi Guys, I posted this in the ebay forum to, but thought it might be useful here to.
I have bought myself a new car and I have my v reg 2.0L ford cougar to sell. My question is which site have people had most success on out of Ebay and autotrader?
It isn't a high value car, (circa £400-£500), therefore which would people recommend? If i am right autotrader is about £10 and ebay £13-15. Also if ebay is good am i best running it as an auction or classified listing?
thanks
Andy

I'd advise an auction on Ebay with a start price of 99p. You're guaranteed sale (unlike Auto Trader) and will get what buyers think the car is worth. Put in a full description and lots of photos as you'll probably sell unseen.
I sold two cars on Ebay last year like this, a 1996 Lexus GS300 and a 1998 Volvo V70. Both went for between £500-600 with no hassle whatsoever. Can I help?0 -
Don't forget that on autotrader the first reply will be from a foreign gentleman offering thousands for a 5 bob car and expect you to pay back the difference.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Neither, pistonheads with photos for no charge at all, :money::money::money::money::money::money::money: if that fails the AT, ebay is risky for car selling/buying.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Why is it any more risky than anywhere else?0 -

I agree with the "why"? I've never had a problem and have bought/sold cars at least six times on Ebay.
I've never heard of "Pistonheads" - most of the OP's potential buyers won't have either.Can I help?0 -
Thinking about it my daughter used to have a Cougar and was a member of the online forum. Why not pop over to see if they have any advice or potential buyers? Can I help?0

Ebay car buying section is populated by chancers, the other options are a little more genuine.
Argue or leave it?, simply my view.
Maybe the situation has changed over the past couple of years as Ebay begins to be a accepted place to source a car, but I know a few who have wasted a whole lot of time viewing cars on there before giving up. They would simply be my last option and I'm sure thats how sellers look at it.
Pay on autotrader, no sale
Stick it on pistonheads for free for a few weeks, no sale.
Bang it on ebay, it's either going to be a bargain or a lemon. ???
Have I had a problem with ebay cars??, no, but then I've avoided them, as others have.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

As mentioned before, if you need to shift asap then list on ebay at 99p starting price.
Pistonheads is free and most forums are to. Go with all three and you should shift soon enough.
Make sure its got lots of pictures and a detailed description and you should not go wrong.0 -
All online marketplaces have their scmasters and chancers, they are on PIstonheads and AUtotrader as much as Ebay Motors.
I managed to sell my old Range Rover a few years back for around £5000 via an ebay auction. Pistonheads and Autotrader were useless on that occasion. i gave a very full description and lots of photos and set a reserve as I didnt want to give it away. Very genuine buyer whop was really pleased with it - bought entirely on description in ad. I did have a classified ad on ebay which didn't even get any enquiries before putting it on an auction.0 -
