Currency buy back, no receipt.

Hi All

I have recently returned from America and have some left over notes ($200). I stupidly chucked the receipt (bought from Thomas Cook). Now I have a bad feeling no one will buy they back. Let alone TC. I know I won't get a better rate with TC but I won't have a problem selling them back will I?

Thanks
In debt no more!

You can sell them to anyone without any problem.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I have about the same amount left over from my last trip (2010) I could really do with the £££ now as well but I know that I will be going back (at least twice) so I am resisting changing to sterling.

Correct - there's a few places that offer a better rate if you have their receipt, and smaller Post Offices can't do it - but in general no problem

But selling to a friend will get you a much better rate - buy back rates are universally poor.

If you live in London you can get good buy back rates - today $200 is worth 127.18 GBP, and the best online rate on the Travel Money Maximiser is 126.15, which is not a poor rate at all, for that amount of money.

If you can't get to London you can still send the money by secure delivery, but the cost of doing this may well outweigh the advantages for an amount like $200.

Selling privately should always get you the optimum rate, anyway.

Next time you travel, consider joining the 21st century and using (the right) plastic!
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
