holiday extras price guarantee - is it a con?

Hi all,

I have recently booked an airport lounge via holidays extra where they have a price guarantee that they are the lowest price or they will refund you what you have paid (i.e get it for free)

Anyhoo, I happen to have found the same airport lounge cheaper with another company so have called holiday extras who have looked into it and have come back saying they wont refund the money as apparently the competitor is only cheaper because it’s a special offer of 15% off.

I have been back to the competitors website and cant see anywhere that they state the price is a special offer so am unsure how holiday extras have come to this conclusion.

Has anyone else had problems with the price guarantee?

Their T&C's are pretty clear to be fair.

I've had a refund on parking from them previously.

I posted a successful claim under their guarantee HERE so I would say 'no' it is not a con

nice one GlennTheBaker still staying for FREE after all these years? Remember Easyjethotels :beer::j:j:D

newcook, stick with it. Argue your case if its a genuine claim. Only the weak give up at the first hurdle.
I've also got a "pending" claim with Essential Travel. under a similar guarantee
Their initial response was very quick, but since I sent the screen shots in, have heard NADA.
Will phone Monday if I don't hear over weekend

That's the problem, it isn't as the ops purchase was a special offer which excludes it from the price guarantee.

Sorry, but our guarantee excludes the following:
    • 1. Insurance products
    • 2. Coach travel
    • 3. Car hire
    • 4. Theme park breaks
    • 5. Prices from other suppliers conditional on buying other products
    • 6. Prices that are part of a customer loyalty, members' or loyalty reward scheme
    • 7. Prices that are part of a staff discount scheme
    • 8. Prices that are part of any other discount or special offer deal
    • 9. Hotel with coach products
    • 10. Hotels or parking in the Republic of Ireland
    • 11. London city centre hotels
    • 12. Rail packages
    • 13. London city centre parking
    • 14. Overseas lounges

"Part of any other discount or special offer" reads to me like

if you buy A then we will give you B for X amount

    A being something else
B being the parking, lounge access or hotel you are claiming for

    5. Prices from other suppliers conditional on buying other products

That scenario is already covered by bullet point 5 though.

"Any Other" is the sticking point imo

Oh, happy days :) I also remember the Ramada 'First night free' price guarantee and Days Inn doing a similar price promise and taking advantage of their generosity.

My recent claim mentioned in my previous post was actually with Essential Travel but they are the same company as Holiday Extras. I made my booking on 26 June 2012 and immediately submitted my claim. I too was contacted quickly (27 June) asking for screenshots and then I finally got the confirmation that my claim was approved on 2 July. Stick with it ;)
