Best material for sealing gap between oil boiler flue and vent?

We're replacing an oil boiler at the minute, and are looking for a sealent that would securely seal the oil boiler flue/vent gap (bottom in pic) and the smaller gap between the flue and the outside vent (top in pic). The new boiler currently is set up like so:

If anyone has any experience in this area i'd be grateful for any advice regarding the safety of sealing the two gaps. The way the previous boiler was set up doesn't allow us to correctly line up the boiler flue, so we thought sealing the gap anyway would do the job with all the fumes escaping through the garage roof boiler chimney.
Thanks

You shouldn't be doing any of this you need to be registered, oil or LPG is no different to natural gas, you can still die from co2 from an oil boiler, so therefore I am not going to give you any advice at all & I hope no one else does, this isn't a diy job, get a reg engineer in.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
He's right, there's a simple solution but given that you don't know what it is it's best left unanswered, no one here wants you to get it wrong,
:(
But keith can probably correct me here when I say "legally there is nothing wrong, ie, illegal, in doing such as this in your own home", but boy, if anything goes wrong you had better be able to prove competence, and by the fact that it has gone wrong you won't be able to.
Might have your own home and you neighbours to replace????I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Yes C you are correct to a certain extent, anyone doing gas, oil or LPG as a job of work needs to reg with the correct organiation, however if you are doing work in your own home then you need to be "competent" & this is the word that applies here, as the OP asked that question then they are clearly not competent & therefore any work they do is illegal & if something were to happen then there maybe a loss of life & a certain prison term, this is a loophole that should have been closed years ago.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Plus that is an open flued boiler, now while I don't work on oil, open flued gas boilers went out yrs ago & I would imagine oil is the same therefore the boiler maybe 2nd hand & to install a 2nd hand appliance you need the manufacturers insructions (has the op got them ? prob not), also without going into too much detail (because like I said they need a reg engineer) that flue (if that's the finished job) is totally incorrect, has the ventilation req been checked ?, I try to give correct advice or I won't comment & my advice to the OP is get a reg engineer in, because what you have done so far is WRONG (& I don't mean in a moral way).I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Exactly as I thought.
I was involved with this at work until I retired a few years ago.
We were a team of engineers who had to maintain the plant and it's systems, I was the companies chief mechanical and electrical engineer, hence my reasonable knowledge of steam, comp air , water and gas systems. Plus our last plant was gas heated.
Every time I had to explain to new engineers that they didn't need (at that time), to be corgi registered, but needed proven training records to prove competence.
Industrial premises are covered under the factories act which ensures public liability insurance hence the exclusion from gas regs.
Sorry, I diverse, just thought it may prove interesting to someone.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Ohhh
Why do people do things like this to save a few quid and then act innocent when it kills someone?
Thanks Keith for (hopefully) putting OP on the right track and getting someone out who is qualified. I must praise you on holding back, very polite post for you ! Lol
Mind you, no one has asked why the fluepipe shown looks like a 5'' one, but the boiler looks like it needs a 7''-9'' pipe? Do manufacturers just like making exhaust ports any size they like and leave it to the consumer to fit what they want? Me thinks not0 -

We are not in the USA or Canada, most people know us as plumbing & heating engineers, the same way as when you want to clean your carpet you get your "hoover" out.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

I must be losing my touch, "note to self must try harder" but you do win the award for quote of the week. :money:I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

{Actually as I'm not a Chartered Engineer perhaps I shouldn't be so touchy}.
