Is this old news, or did GB just ignore the previous OFT action, and continue their fraud?

It's a bit of a nerdy point but the action reported in the BBC news was taken by the Trading Standards dept of Carmarthen County Council - with a court case last August (see here also).

Now the Office for Fair Trading, a national body, has got GB Oils to alter its contracts to comply with regulations regarding fair trade. I've posted more here - in the main heating oil thread - with links to these regs so other posters can use them if necessary.

OFT also got Flogas, the LPG part of DCC, to alter its contracts to include a maximum price rise clause (see here). GB Oils is the oil part of the DCC conglomerate. Lots about Flogas and about GB Oils on MSE!
  • This is one reason why I started the heatingoilshop.com website.

We provide a free service to heating oil users so that they can get heating oil quotes from all suppliers to their postcode.

We say "all", with the exception of GB Oils as they did not want to be part of the this customer oriented website. In fact they got pretty nasty with us at one time.

Now I know this sounds like a sales plug and I guess it is but, take a look at the website as it tells you more about what we do and why.

I am a 63 year old former oil company manager with 30 years in the business trying to bring some sanity into the market place. With support from customers around the country we can make this website a great success with heating oil customers taking control of their purchases.

What's in it for me, we charge a supplier a few pennies per heating oil quote lead.

    Best regards
