I want to start making ££ on Ebay!

You need to be sourcing them for less than £1 to make any decent money.
Are they making £300 or selling £300 worth?
Is the shop within walking distance? Transport costs? Say you sell a £ item for £2 minus 50p to £1+ postage. minus 20p ebay fees - paypal fees.
Dont forget to factor in some returns. Some may get broken or be faulty to start with.
Are you now selling at a loss? When i can buy the same item from china for £1 delivered.
Find cheaper suppliers.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
once upon a time you might have made a bit of a profit on a £1 shop buy but as the others above have stated with ebay fees and paypal's whack not to mention this site's quickgrabbit board's info spread wide and far those days have gone. find a niche market, really be clear abt your costs for postage and monies taken by eb and paypal and tell hmrc...0

I tried this in the past, really as a way of just getting more lines in my shop. You could make money, but it was pence. Now that the posting charges have increased it can't be done, in my view.
I do wish you all the best though, if you decide to try.0 -
I do agree, though you can still pick up the odd item in a pound shop that is a genuine clearance item, rather than something that every pound shop sells all the time. You really need to know what you are doing though and when you do buy something be prepared to hang on to it for a few months and then sell it.markwilkinson wrote: »I tried this in the past, really as a way of just getting more lines in my shop. That said the clearance items are much less than they used to be in the major pound shops now that they tend to be run by accountants rather than people that know what they are doing, but that's another story!.0 -
I wouldn't worry too much about offering detailed advice. the OP has logged in since posting and after several responses were posted but hasn't responded.

I thought of this thread when I saw this listing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blackfriars-Fruit-Flapjack-Vegan-Dairy-Free-110g-/150868799711?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Food_SM&hash=item23207b30df
I buy these in Aldi, and I think they're 50p there. Who would pay £3.19 or more for one?0 -

And assuming he is paying 99p For them he will make pennies profit assuming he sells any. Assume 10p FVF, 23p PayPal (micro account) and say 10p for a jiffy bag. So potentially 7p profit a go.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. But if she's paying £0.50p, there's a bit more profit.
It makes me think that I could do this on free listing days. I could do my normal food shop, then put everything I buy with a use by date sufficiently in the future up on ebay for a starting price allowing a small profit. If it sells, I make a small profit. If it doesn't, I eat it.0 -

Sorry I mistyped! (I struggle to keep me open on my iPad so tend to type as quick as I can and save in batches)
If they buy at 50p they are making around 7p a go.
It also seems a shame to risk a perfectly good private account and be forced to grade to a business when eBay notice the trading.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
