How do Home Bargains stores compare against the other stores?

Good morning fellow MSE's,
Yesterday whilst shopping in Chelmsford I noticed there is a Home Bargains shop opening on Saturday(28th July). As like most of us these days I need to tighten my belt even more and am always looking to save money wherever I can.The question is how do they compare to the other shops across the board for food and everyday items?
Do any of you still go to different stores for particular items?
Thank you for your time.

It depends what you buy...I don't have a HB close anymore but I used to go there for household things - cleaners, bin bags, toilet paper etc as it was generally cheaper than the supermarket for that kind of thing.
They can also be really good for things like biscuits/sweets/crisps.
I always found it worth having a little walk round every week or two just to see what they had in that was good value and that I needed.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Good for cleaning products, cheap booze and presents such as chocolate etc, Also good for a few household utensils such as whisks can openers etc

I love HB it's always worth having a wander round to pick up a few bargains, they do seem to have plenty of staples that are there week in week out and then other stuff that you have to grab while it's there as once it's gone it's gone, you can't do your weekly shop there but you can certainly pick up plenty that will always be cheaper than the main supermarketsAug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00

Easter Eggs, boxes of chocolates and branded toiletries are pretty good value. Also the toilet rolls, 18 rolls for £3.59 and lots of people I know use the Nicky ones.0

I love HB, but be warned it is impossible to go in and buy just one thing :rotfl:.
I buy:
- Nicky toilet rolls, 9 for £2 or 18 for £4
- condiments like soy sauce or chilli sauce
- packet pasta/rice/noodles for quick work lunches
- toilettries stuff like nail polish remover, shower puffs, cotton buds/pads etc
- stirfry sauces, curry starter packs etc - these can be as cheap as 10p!
They also have great home items too!

We love Home Bargains. We live in Kent and don't have any stores here as yet but hopefully they will arrive here soon. When ever we go on holiday with our touring caravan we look up to see if there is a Home Bargains nearby and you can guarantee we come home with a pile of things. We found them good for toys especially but we usually have varied purchases. If they were in our home town we would certainly walk there every week and we could check the prices elsewhere before purchasing things.0

Home Bargains/Quality Save is a top notch shop. Most of the prices are really good compared to other stores, e.g. Nature Valley bars are 6 for £1 or almost 80p each in Holland and Barrett.
However, you have to keep your wits about you. Nutri Grain 6 packs are normally on promotion at Asda/Tesco/Sainsbury for £1. A 5 pack of Nutri Grain will cost you £1.40ish at Quality Save/Home Bargains. There are numerous other items as well that are much more expensive that other stores.0 -

So true - main thing is to be aware of prices wherever you shop, then if you spot a 'bargain' you'll know whether it IS a bargain FOR YOU.
Poundland f'instance - sell 2 x 16 Ibuprofen for £1 BUT I can pay less than 50p (anything from 35p+) for 1 packet (own brand) in Savers, Morrisons, Wilkinsons etc - so 50p for 16 tablets is not a bargain!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

As has been said before, you must be aware of what you would pay in other shops for any item you are tempted to buy there. Some items are cheaper, some more expensive. However, you will ALWAYS find a few things worth buying I can guarantee, so I never have a wasted trip there! On the Grabbit forum there is a long running thread on bargains other MSE's have found there, so this will give you some ideas what to look out for. If you spot any good bargains buy them there and then, 'cos if you go back they will have gone!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

10 packs of tissues are 59p, 99p in poundstretchers and gues how much in the pound shop.
Nicky toilet rolls and kitchen rolls are really good value
PG Tips and Yorkshire tea bags are £3.99, at Morrisons £5.99.
I even found some BB foundation for £1.99 3 x times that price at least in other places.
Ive never come out empty handed.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
