replacing taps - connector size confusion!

Hi all - apologies in advance for this question! I know it's basic stuff but I've done too much reading on DIY forums today and I've confused myself.
I'm replacing the two taps in our bathroom basin with a monobloc mixer tap and covering the empty hole with a cap. We can't use a bridge or deck tap because it's a really old sink and the taps are 30cm apart - which is not a standard fitting size, I now realise
The tap I'm looking at comes complete with tails ending G1/2 female couplers. Do I need a compression reducer coupler to fit this to my 15mm pipes?
I thought I'd figured it out but then I couldn't work out the difference between a 15mm x 10mm reducing coupler and a 1/2" x 10mm reducing coupler - some people seem to use the terms interchangably by others say that there is a 0.5mm difference between the two which can't be ignored!
I'm tempted to buy the tap and then go to the local DIY shop and get the nice man to work it out for me but I'd quite like to have a better understanding just for my own sake.
Thanks in advance for the help

What you need is a half inch to 15mm coupler similar to this:

If you don't want a fancy chromed one then just go for standard brass.

Video shows exactly same coupler as in post 2 but in brass.

But hold on guys, to fit a monoblock tap you need a hole size of 35mm & I've never seen a two tap hole basin with that size hole so the new monoblock tap might not even fit, bridge mixers are designed for sinks not basins.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

I think you're right chap, but, and this is irrelevant in this case but I have done something similar by taking a diamond holesaw to the hole and elongating it enough for the pipe tails.
Ok Might have cause a stress point but it worked, but only for the advanced diyer I might add.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

This is indeed the plan - well, the plan for hubby, not me!

If you can get the tap to fit the hole, then instead of the coupler, why not use an isolator valve. It will compress onto the copper pipe and you can screw the flexible tails straight onto the other end of it. Also means less hassle if/when you change the basin or tap in the future.
Good luck0 -

Wouldn't I need an isolator valve in addition to the reducing coupler though? Unless I forked out for a couple of THESE

well i wish you the best of luck, but when you go & get a new basin cause the other has shattered, just get a single tap hole one.;)I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
