Economycarhire.com - in Cyprus

I've searched this forum for this company, but the last mention I can find was back in 2009.

Has anyone used the site to hire a car in Cyprus recently?

I'm looking for more info because a dear friend of mine, who doesn't have much money and is mortally afraid of gettign ripped off, is looking for a holiday car hire for this September.

Any advice, greatly appreciated.

does he need to pick up from airport ?
We rented from a local family business in Paphos.
Walked in,rented for 3 days at good price. Fuel policy- leave roughly amount you got.left keys at apartment reception for pick up. Absolutely no issues like you hear of in Spain etc. 4/5 doors to left of O'Neils Irish pub on Tomb of Kings Rd

Not used them recently, nor in Cyprus, but not had any problems with them at all in the past. They were even very helpful in sorting out an issue with a car hire in Spain once where the company they had made the booking with decided they weren't going to allow a border crossing in to Gibraltar. A quick phone call later and they arranged another car from another company.

Only wish I'd used them last time but in typically British fashion I tried looking for a cheaper price and got stung...

If your friend is going to the Paphos area, try Elephant. I use them whenever I visit Cyprus and have never had any problems. They get pretty good reviews on TripAdvisor too.

Dreadful company, wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

Ouch Altarf! Sounds ominous - what happened?

Some mixed reviews here. So still not sure whether to recommend them or not.

Friend is going to Limassol, which I know well because I've been many times. I've used the same local, family run car hire place for the last 10 years, but the Father retired and the Son has delusions of grandeur and now wants to rent his 5 year old Terios for £700 for a fortnight AND stiff customers with a 3000 euro excess! I just can't sugesst to my friend to use them, because I'll never use them again myself. Its a real shame, the Father was a great bloke, but the son is a knob!

  • I don't know about economy car hire, but I've always used Skyscanner for my car hire, very competitive quotes. https://www.skyscanner.net/car-hire

They failed to provide the car booked, and when they did provide a car, it was a "rent a wreck" - covered in dings and dents, broken lights, wipers not working, filthy interior, with ripped upholstery, etc.

Took it up with their "customer service" in the UK when I got back, who accused me of not telling the truth until I produced the photographic proof. And then they stopped answering emails.
