DMP Whats Best? CCCS Or Payplan

Hi All

Ok Just a basic story for now.

I am 38, married with 3 young children and another on the way.

I work full time as a postman, and my wife is a childminder. The day we found out she was pregnant the mother of the child she childminded for decided to give her job up. Thus leaving us without a child to care for and no income, plus there is not a big demand around here for more childcare.

We was doing really well paying our debts as well just had two years on our loan, then we was going to concentrate on the credit cards.

But with just me as the main earner we simply cannot cope now.

We have 24k of debt

6K LOAN, 18K CREDIT CARDS AND STORE CARDS.

Ok so I have read around and it seems I should use CCCS or payplan.

Could you guys please tell me which is the best?

And will they set everything up?

Will the credit companies not contact me anymore?

Will the credit companies still keep adding interest and charges? or will cccs or payplan make sure that does not happen?

I only earn £1320 a month plus tax credits and child benefit.

I am paying out over 600 quid just on debt.

Just want to get out of this mess and have a happy environment for my family.

I hope our circumstances change and we can pay more towards our debts once the plan has started.

But like I say I will be worried sick about creditors harrassing me and adding more interest and charges.

I hope someone can help

plus has anyone got a rough idea of figures they imput into expenditure sheets? I mean what do you include for kids clothes and entertainment for example..

Oh dear what a mess

Thanks

Marcus

    Hi and welcome

First things first, try not to worry although I know it's easy to say.

To answer your basic question, either provider is fine. Contact them both and go with the one you feel most comfortable with. I'm with CCCS, others swear by Payplan.

I will speak from a CCCS point of view as that is what I know but don't just accept what I say, look at both options.

CCCS have this thing called Debt Remedy where you can fill in all your debt details and income and expenditure and it will give you a reading (all anonymous) you can play with the figures for expenditure and then see what it says.

Obviously you have to cut back on things like mobile phones, sky and other extravagances but just try that first and see how it feels writing everything down.

    The link is here

Will creditors still contact you? At first yes then it quietens down.

Will they stop interest? Probably but nothing is guaranteed and for example, half mine have stopped, but the others charge (some a lot - yes Barclaycard i'm looking at you).

The important thing is to get things under control and make sure you have a roof, can eat , can pay council tax, gas, elec, etc. Then think about paying the creditors back.

Good luck and don't delay sorting this out, it's doable - see my sig - but it takes some work.

I was with Payplan. It took a little time for creditors to settle down and accept the reality of our situation and lower payments. Interest was halted for a while which was a real help.

With debts that high you will go through several annual reviews, very similar to the initial budget interview but far less stressful.

With Payplan and CCCS all the money you pay to them will go to clearing the debt. Avoid any company that want to charge you a fee, they may claim to be able to stop all charges etc... but they will not be able to do any better.

Wow seven years so far :)

would you mind telling me what they have you pay each month?

I am so scared of doing this, really worried about warning letters and people coming after me.

We've been with CCCS since Jan this year, and they're great.
We pay them what we can each month and they pass it all on to our creditors.

The amount you pay each month depends upon your circumstances, as advised above, do a statement of affairs and post it in here, we can help you :-)

I was with Payplan and they were fine. Especially at the beginning. Getting a budget set up with them, they were very realistic about things and said I could review at any time if I wasn't coping. The yearly reviews were straight forward. I wasn't able to increase payments for 2 years and it wasn't a problem.

As said above, things take a while to calm down, but knowing I had someone I could speak to on the end of a phone, after a nasty letter or phonecall, that would tell me not to panic, was what I needed.

After 6 months I never heard from most of my creditors again apart from statements. All but 3 of my creditors stopped interest.

I wasn't entirely happy towards the end of my plan, they changed my advisor who to be honest couldn't communicate well via email. But generally my DMP went very well and whenever I called they were great.

    Morning Marcus !

I started paying £236/mth and am now paying £280/mth, of which £5/month is life insurance, so actually its £275/mth.

Dont be scared about getting letters/phonecalls from your creditors because YOUR in charge and being responsible by dealing with the debt and if you havent got the money what can they do ?.

Just be prepared to be hounded to death by phonecalls, but there are letters that you can send telling them you will only communicate by post.

Once you start your plan, do your best to stick to it, and then the only communication you will get from your creditors is their agreement to Payplans proposals.

In my case, since I started with Payplan, I have had no problems and I would like to congratulate you on dealing with your debt problem.

    Kind regards !
