Moving gas meter for extension

For those who think they need gas meters moving,an option might be to extend the inlet using steel or copper tubing from the CV to the new metering position. As long as the meter bears a label as to the position of the ECV,it will almost certainly be compliant. Depends on individual situations. also the person moving the meter must have meters on his gassafetyregister card and must have permission from the meter owner.0

We only want to move the meter about 1m up the wall if possible as it is currently nearly as ground level and drives us nuts! So am interested in what you say Pssst as I think using someone like that would do us fine - is that correct?0

Most Meter Operators will move a meter by 1 metre on the same wall as long as there are no obstructions free of charge.I believe Gas meters can be moved up to twice this distance. Give your Supplier a call and check with them.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

We want to move our gas meter about 20cm to the left so we can put in a door where there is already a window (meter is currently below the window).
British gas won't do it (although they say moving a meter less than half a metre they do for free), they say the service pipe needs to be moved.
National Grid Gas (we're in London) are going to charge us £844 (plus VAT=£991.70!) to move the service pipe - it's literally inches, they don't need to do any digging as the builders have already dug around the pipe, they don't need to shorten or lengthen the pipe, the pipe is capped so they certainly don't need to dig up the road to turn the gas off. HOW can they justify this charge?!
And it seems they have a complete monopoly as it's THEIR pipework, and this is completely legit!0 -
Just to let you know - gas meter being moved less than a metre without any service pipe modification is free. It's only when the service pipe needs to be modified/it's over a metre then theres a charge.
For elec meters, you'd need to contact your local electricity board, and they'll charge you if it's moved off the existing backboard (which is very likely if you want to have it moved).0
