Aren't Talk Talk winding down their legacy products?

People thinking this is a bargain - you're getting tied into a contract to pay them every month - just like Sky!
Youview does very little that a Freeview HD recorder with internet connectivity doesn't do already.

I agree don't get locked into a contract to pay for Freeview.
Try a YouView box and if you like the service, buy it.

I've just signed up for TalkTalk on their 3.25 a month deal as it went to unlimited and I want out of all my sky.

I looked at this when signing up and just couldn't see the value for the contract? It is just a glorified Freeview box which you can buy a PVR version for £100. I can do most of the internet stuff (catch-up TV) on my PS3 already.

I've 2 weeks of my Sky HD left and then it's gone. We had a rubbish Bush Freesat HDR in the bedroom that was just awful, constant lockups and failed recordings so as it had a month of warranty left it's gone back to Argos and I've bought a Humax Foxsat-HDR to replace $ky HD. Will put the Sky HD box in the bedroom just for the FTA Channels and some HD.

Going to stay out the Pay For TV game for at least 12 months and see if I actually miss it.

If I don't want to record programmes or select a pay film then youview is a bit pointless when compared to a smart TV, is this assumption broadly correct?

No, YV integrates the catch up players directly within its EPG.

Thanks, that's a good point. Will we get cheaper YV boxes with this feature?

That would appear to be the plan from what Lord Sugar said at the launch.
There are some ex trialist boxes for sale on Amazon, but these won't have any warranty.

According to the TT rep on here, the box is currently in the second phase of the trial & those trialling the box has signed a non disclosure agreement so they cannot answer that question, but going on trials I've been involved with, you're looking at at least another two months before it goes onto phased release.
