Natwest - Helpful Banking....Not very helpful according to my last visit!
Anyone else had trouble paying cash into somebody else's account at the counter? Today I was told this was not possible and any cheques/cash that were being paid into somebody else's account would have to be put in a deposit envelope and would credit before 5pm.
I was paying cash into my boyfriend's account and he needed to withdraw it immediately (he is working away). Whilst I can understand using this method for cheques, I was not happy about it for cash and most people like to see the money keyed on immediately when paying in cash.
However I was repeatedly told that the counter staff would not take the cash (Natwest is still a bank isn't it???). After 5 minutes of frustration, I left and went to another branch. They told me the same thing but when I explained the situation they reluctantly took the deposit but would not provide a receipt due to privacy even though she showed me the screen showing the deposit and balance for my boyfriend's account and I had given her the bank account details.
With all the battering Natwest are getting at the moment with bonuses and technical difficulties, you would think they would want to keep their customers not hinder them with new policies! So if you regularly pay cash into someone's else account and want to do it at the counter, avoid Natwest!

My Husband has paid money into my account with no problems & I've paid £50 cash into my brother's & got a receipt! How weird :S0

Could you not have sent it by faster payments from your own account to your boyfriends? Would have got there pretty much instantly without the need to visit a branch as it could have been done by telephone or internet banking0

Never had a problem paying in cash over the counter at natwest.0

Two major grounds for complaint right there:
1) Refusing to give a receipt (as opposed to simply not giving one, they actively refused) after initially refusing to carry out a very basic banking service for no valid reason (I'm all for using machines and self-service but if it is provided as an option it should be just that)
2) They showed you confidential information about your boyfriend's account which you weren't entitled to see, breaching the Data Protection Act. To refuse to give a receipt because of the DPA and then do that is nonsensical.
Get him to stick in a formal complaint about both of those. They will pay up. Mainly because of the second one.urs sinserly,

It should be fine. I have had people do the same into my account and I have also done the same with other people's accounts.
I would also make a complaint. Note down the details whilst you still remember them, branches, times etc and especially the member of staff who showed you the screen with the balances and stuff on.I work for Natwest.0 -
They won't in my local branch either, it depends on the area. There is no point complaining about something that is standard in many branches0

The only reason you may not be able to get a receipt is if you only had the card number as the receipt would show his account number and sort code. You could ask for a handwritten one with just his card number on it if that is what you provided.0

I have paid cash and cheques into my husbands account loads of times. I have even turned up without his paying in book and his account number scribbled on a bit of paper and they still did it.
Pretty sure I was offerred and got a receipt too.0 -

I'm sure that wouldn't apply in this case, seeing as if they're going to show her his balance customer confidentiality is likely not at the forefront of their minds.urs sinserly,
