My nasty neighbours got a knock on the door from me last night. Their dog started barking at 10pm just as I had started to drop off to sleep. It carried on non stop and at 11.30pm I had had enough.

I was expecting next door to be out, and I could have a shout at the dog, but no all in and the lad answered the door looking like he was already wanting to hit me. I asked could he please sort the dog out, and the reply I got was F off it can bark if it wants and slammed the door on me!

It carried on till around midnight then stopped. I've put up with this dog and the neighbours parties for years and I've had enough. I have to be up for work at 6am.

My sleep is disturbed several times a week because of these morons.

Have you reported it to the council? The dog cannot bark if it wants to - not if it's causing nuisance noise and there will be a department who deal with this. If it's happening regularly, for hours at a time, and during such unsociable hours, I'd be surprised if the council didn't do anything. Elsewhere someone suggested that the general rule for what constitutes nuisance barking is prolonged barking for 30 minutes+ constantly

He has totally overstepped the mark, and been pretty stupid (unfortunately these people tend to be aggressive and stupid - a bad combination).
I would first of all contact your local police, and explain that he was abusive towards you - this is only to keep yourself covered in case anything else happens. They will then point you towards the relevant authority, possibly environmental services (?), noise abatement.
Have any of the other neighbours complained?
We did this with a neighbour decades ago, he threatened violence, we contacted the police, and never heard anything from the dog or him again.

our next door neighbour's dog barks/growls constantly whenever we go outside in the garden - hanging washing out etc/ go near my back door porch/ even if the windows are open. And it does not stop until 10mins after we go back in or close the windows etc. the owners never tell it to stop - they treat it like a child - but it is driving me crazy!!:It is not stopeek: So I can completely sympathize with you.

Our neighbours have a basset hound that barked a lot when it was a puppy - e.g. they'd go out for the day and leave the dog in the garden, where it would sit and bark for hours until they returned. Now the dog is older it hardly makes a sound.

Start keeping a detailed noise diary - what, when, for how long etc - and contact Environmental Health.

I always ask next door if shes barked when we've been out, so far it's only been once. she prefers destroying the kitchen. They maybe don't realise. If dogs bark its caused by seperation anixety so the behaviourist told me. I try not to leave mine more than 4 hours and never at night.
