Neighbours dog barking through the night, help!

A few years ago my friend found out that her dog had been barking while she was at work, and was really shocked. She bought one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000H3VAQ8/ref=asc_df_B000H3VAQ88932665?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&!!!!!googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B000H3VAQ8 not really expecting much, and it really worked. It might be worth telling them about it.0

I think that's the one my rellies were using, or something similar. It did work. Didn't realise they cost that much though!0 -
You can suggest to them that they buy a DAP Diffuser (they're not expensive) as these release pheromones that have a calming effect in many dogs and can help deal with separation anxiety, although this is by no means guaranteed. The last time I looked it's about £20 for a three month diffuser.
I bought one of these from my vets a few years ago when one of my dogs were suffering from separation anxiety, I came home and he had chewed if out the plug socket and chewed it up! Never tried it again so can't comment on them working!
Most of my neighbours have dogs and apart from the occasional bark they are fine. A new neighbour moved in last year with 3 small, yappy dogs and they bark every 3 seconds all day without fail, luckily I can't hear them at night. Last weekend the weather was gorgeous and the dogs were barking as normal when one of my neighbours clearly snapped and shouted 'shut your f***ing mutts up!' he clearly said what everybody was thinking! We had peace for the rest of the day! Though its not something I would do, I was quite grateful to him!
I think a quick chat to see if they are aware that their dog barks, its so hard though to not get people on the defensive, so a think a 'softly, softly' approach to start with would be your best bet.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

We had the same thing at our last house, semi-detached.
We went and saw them about it, at first they were very defensive, but we explained it couldn't continue. After a few more visits the problem was sorted - presumably with duct tape - without any flare up.
If they refuse to sort it, ring the RSPCA next time it happens and say the dog is in distress.0 -
OMG it's not just me who is going through this then? I totally sympathise with you as dogs barking is so irritating but the sad thing is it's not the dog's fault it's the owner's.
My partner and I have been renting our council house for 2 years now and would like to buy it as soon as we are eligible. A lot of people are wary of living next to people who rent, however on the contrary my partner and I are quiet and never cause any distrurbance UNLIKE our 2 home owner neighbours.
The neighbours on our left have a huge garden but have built a small enclosure and dump their dog in it for most of the day and all night. The poor thing whines and whimpers - it really is the most depressing sound ever. There is a couple living there and they invite friends over sitting on the patio at night making a racket ignoring the caged dog whimpering away. Last weekend was glorious weather and the couple must have gone out for the day leaving the dog in it's cage barking and whimpering. It is so cruel - why bother having a pet if you're not going to walk it? The thing is because we rent we don't feel able to go and knock on the door as they could retaliate and complain to our housing company and we could end up evicted if people are complaining around us. Plus you never really know who the people are whose door you are knocking on - you hear awful stories about people getting chinned for trying to co-operate with neighbours.

If the dog is making constant noise then Environmental Health may be willing to do something about it but the noise has to be deemed "unreasonable" and apparently this can vary quite a bit in personal opinion. I recently heard that a rough guideline is half an hour of constant barking. It might be less if it's happening at less social hours, e.g. overnight. So make a log, get onto the noise abatement team of your local authority, and go down that route - much more likely to have the powers to do something than the RSPCA.0

Years ago we had a dog that barked constantly about 3 doors down when its owner went out. If you yelled at it from an upstairs window to shut up, it did.Make £2025 in 2025

Talk to them in a calm manner and say you really don't want to go dow a route of complaining to the council if it's something you ca sort out between the two of you and that you can't take the dog barking all the time and could they please either keep him inside and quiet while they are out or have someone with him all the time.
Do not make an attempt to shout at the dog, look at it, feed it, reach over to it or throw anything at it.
We had a GSD growing up that was a barker. 7pm one night the neighbours came out an actually poured boiling water on him!!!!!!!! Before talking to us or anything!!! We kept him as quiet as we could, but cats were the trigger every time.
The dog then bashed his way through their fence and mangled the guys arm. He didn't do it again!!! Idiot!0 -

The neighbour on our right is harmless enough but has a really loud voice and often comes in from nights out at 1-2am on working days waking us up with singing, talking, yelling in the street. I have talked about it jokingly with her hoping she takes the hint but no such luck! On a sunny day she will think nothing of putting her stereo on the back step full blast all day and everyone else in the gardens around her have to listen to her over loud crap dance music.
You may think I'm being a misery guts but I really am not - I like music but wouldn't play it at thousands of decibels inflicting it on neighbours who are trying to relax in their gardens.
I don't understand how people are so selfish and don't think about how their behavior or actions affect people living around them.
I'd report this too- neglect shouldn't just ignored if the recipient is in distress (I don't differentiate between humans or animals in that respect). RSPCA in England or Wales, SSPCA in Scotland. Not sure about the agency in N. Ireland. As far as I'm aware, all are anonymous
Sadly, if they don't care the dog is in distress I wouldn't expect them to give a toss about neighbours either.:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
We've had this exact problem for the last five week since a new neighbour moved in. We live in a terrace block of flats therefore quite a few families are affected:mad:
She's a victim of domestic violence and no one wants to cause her any more grief.
However it was really stressing my next door neighbour who lives above the barking dog.
On Saturday after the dog had been barking for over five hours solid I suggested that next door neighbour phone and let her know of the problem. He did and she took it well, she was also completely unaware that the dog was barking.
He basically said that he thought the dogs were in distress, she has two.I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0
