Credit Card Fraud
Comments
-
Did you ever find out which type of fraud was committed against you.
ie. Do you know if they used your PIN?
Or.
Did they use your card details?
If they used your PIN then you'd expect the Bank to advise you to a least change your PIN soonest, even better advice if you use the same PIN for each card.
You can of course opt for Chip & Signature with your credit cards.0 -

They said it had nothing to do with my pin and they think they have got my card details from wherever () and have used them online so they haven't had to go into a shop etc. to sign or use the pin.
I'm still interested to know where they got my card details from though coz the card was cut up about 8 months ago!0 -
Thanks.
Obtaining someones card details I can assure you is very easy for the determined fraudster.
The 3 mains sources of compromise are:
The Banks themselves - recently highlighted on TV where Barclays was hammered.
The Retailer - You give them ALL you details either on the Internet, by mail, phone or even fax. Include Retail staff when you hand over or use your card.
The Cardholder. How savvy are we when it comes to keeping our card details private? It's being muted that the banks are beginning to shift liability for card security onto the cardholder.0 -

Have a look at this months Computer Active Issue 237 next time you're in Tesco's, W H Smith etc:
