I tried to find a free texting service on line and all I found were ripoffs.
The last one i tried said "free" but tried to charge the recipient £3

Does anyone know of any that are really free to both send AND receive and uncomplicated to use?

Thanks

Not free and send-only, but if you sign up with a SIPGATE VoIP account you can send texts for 5.90p for 160 characters. Texts get received on the mobile phone you register with the service.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

normaly orange and o2 and if any other mobile providers allow you to send free text online within your account.

I use http://www.mobitexter.net/, and it works very well.

However, it's no good if you are one of the paranoid fraternity, as you have to sync your contacts with a google account.
Personally, that hasn't bothered me, and the convenience of the facility is well worth it.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Doesn't this simply forward the message to your handset, which then sends it out as a normal text message?

I'm be more paranoid about it signing me up to premium rate text message services than knowing who's in my contact list. :)

But is not free is it unless you have inclusive texts available on your mobile. As it works as an interface between your PC and your mobile & the messages are sent by your mobile.

I think I'm going to go with cbfsms.com. It seems to be the only one that is really free without limitations such as with O2.
O2 would be my second choice
I'm not being a skinflint. It's just that while traveling abroad I don't have access to my inclusive text that I get with giffgaff
