Idiot car dealers
As some of you know I'm after an older 'prestige' diesel to run on vegoil. Saw a nice BMW 318TDS on ebay, some distance away, looked great.
Rang dealer today, almost the first thing he said to me was 'trade sale only, absolutely no warranty, its 13 years old what do you expect?' In, well, a slightly aggressive manner, then wouldn't give details on service history 'just whatever's in there'. So that one's off the list then...
Do they think this behaviour makes them sell cars easily?

Yup, there are !!!!!!!!s in every industry.
Leaves more customers for those of us who are making the effort.0 -
The guy is probably trade only for a reason - probably because he want to contract out certain aspects of the Sales of Goods Act and basically sell the case 'as seen' without having to deal with the mine field as it consumer rights.0

If his attitude was poor, ring him up and see how many questions you can get in before he hangs up... may as well have some fun with him0

The thing is, it doesn't work like that. Simply stating "trade sale" counts for nothing unless he has proper grounds to believe the buyer is trade - them agreeing to "trade terms" doesn't count.
Sadly, the sort of dealer who tries this is generally the sort of dealer who's caused all the consumer protection laws to appear in the first place and made it harder for everyone to simply deal fairly by mutual agreement.0 -
trade sale=has major problems i dont want to repair, whatever it has in there=nothing and ran to death.0

Some on here would argue that SOGA would expect a 13 yo banger to be free of faults within the first six months of sale. The days of affordable older cars via the trade will be numbered if that becomes the case.0

I think, through his experience, he has done you a favour. After that opening "chat" there is no way any sensible person would travel a distance to pick up his yard shrapnel. Stay away.0

Local used car tradesman in my town wouldn't fix a customers car they had just bought. They ended up on youtube giving the customer abuse.

Which is why the dealer wasn't humoring op and made it clear he was trading to 'trade customers' only.
It's not like he hid this fact away in bunches of text in order to sell op the car and benefit from B2B contract! In fact he was quite responsible in ensuring his potential customer wasn't a 'consumer'.
Well done to him for not blagging his way in to a sale whilst hiding crucial facts in terms :T0
