the other half wants to get a asda credit card to buy the food and petrol with as there new promotion is 1% cash back.
shes 23, a masters graduate earning 23k and living at my address (me earning 30k).
shes checked her expedia file and the only thing she has on it is a mobile fone contract since 2007. and her student loan comes straight out her wages via bacs.
when she rang them the women said as she didnt have a credit history they wont give her one??
now i understand the need for prudent borrowing but this seems daft. any ideas apart from me getting one and her an additional card  lol

How does the credit card company know she will pay it back with no history in managing a credit card.0 -

so how do you get the history if no one will give you a card? id agree a low limit, £500, would be a start.
its daft you have to get unnessacary credit while your younger so you can get credit when you need it.
shes been punished for not needing credit while shes younger and managing her finances well.0 -

She will have to go down the sub-prime route like a vanquis card which is about 50% apr as she won't get any 0% offers.
Or her own bank who knows her history.0 -
She could look at the sub-prime option, with a view to stringently using it to *only* improve her credit rating - i.e. buy usual item(s) with it, pay off each month?
The phone contract will have helped with her credit file a bit anyway, which is positive - I presume she hasn't missed any payments on that?On the up

@F_Bear, let her apply for Granite card or capital one to start with, after good management, she can then try 0% card.
@backinbusiness, no cause for alarm :rotfl:, you just need to correct him.
