I would say get down to your local tyre place, not franchised and just get em to fit the cheapest. I have 16" wheels and mine only cost around 40 quid each. I only have a clio so don't see any point in spending for better quality tyres.

I acknowledge your comment about more expensive tyres having better grip, but I do not think for average cars the improvement is that noticeable. I tried Conti's as these were original equipment, but not really noticed any difference between those and m cheap ones other than the 40quid a corner I now save.

Are you positive on that tyre size? Long time since I was in tyres, but that size wasn't that popular then - not many 70 series tyres around nowadays.Put your reg in kwik-fit's tyre search tool and it should confirm - I've found it pretty accurate. Don't ignore kwik-fit - if you book online they're cheaper.

Cheap tyres do meet all the legal standards, but the premium ones exceed the standards, usually by some distance - like a lot of things, you do get what you pay for so buy the best you can afford. Those 4 little patches of rubber are all that's between you and the road and the good stuff shouldn't be reserved for 'high speed' BMW 'drivers' like our friend wallbash above

I used www.etyres.co.uk The price was good, and they fit at home/work - may be some voucher codes around - try google?

"the cheapest tyre offered will do the job , will be legal, AND safe"
That is fool advice - the worst performing tyres are METRES longer in stopping.

To the original poster ignore that fantasy and get the best performing that you can - the typical brand names or their sister brands are generally the best. The Chinese stuff generally isnt. The only way you know is by doing your research on the specific tyre you are looking at.

This isnt about "ohh, I have a BMW, look at me drive like an idiot so I pay more" - in a wet emergency stop a 5 Metre difference in ANY car is a whole load less of squashed car.

You should know what sort of tyre you are buying and how it performs not just chance it to luck. I tend to go for Michelins as they are always at the top of the performance table but they are expensive, but they last longer so overall they aren't as much but people generally don't factor this in.

See that report - the ArrowSpeed is worst in dry braking - QuickFit offer this tyre in your size - happy about fitting that? Someones daughter may have them fitted. The Sunew in the wet is even more dire - 20+M longer than the best.

Kwick Fit might not be the cheapest but I have never felt ripped off.

You have a corsa , not an Aston Martin the cheapest tyre offered will do the job , will be legal, AND safe

So try the local papers for advice , no point traveling miles , a cheap tyre is a cheap tyre.
a cheap budget tyre while being legal and safe regardless of what its fitted to is not as good as a mid range in the wet and all for what? £10-20 extra a tyre? You might not think you need the extra grip but there will come a time when you wish you could of stopped just a few feet short.

If the OP asks to see the information label http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/motoring/motorfeatures/Tyres-248225.html they can compare the wet grip and decide

In an Aston traveling at high speed would want the best / most expensive tyres I could get , but if it was an Aston , money would never be a worry.I own a high speed BMW , the tyres on that are expensive , but I also pay for the tyres on my daughters 1.3 Fiesta , they are obtained from Kwickfit and are from there budget range . I have no worries about my daughter.
please dont tell me she drive with her face 150mm away from the steering wheel aswell

Make sure the speed rating agrees with the manufacturer's spec for the vehicle, otherwise you may have insurance problems in the event of a claim.

If the owner's manual says "W," don't fit "T" or "H" for example.

yes, if I use the online checker on both black circles and kwikfit I get that size, also that's what the tyre says and the chap in Costco confirmed.

Thanks for all your help. I've ordered through black circles, I've go e for the Hankook Kinergy Eco, doing a little research this seemed a good option and was £115 for 2 tyres fully fitted this weekend.

Thanks again for the help and guidance.
