Interview - I feel ive let myself down :(

Hi,
Had a interview today for a Supervisor promotion at my works, and i'm so mad at myself because now I feel like I could of performed better.
At present, im a acting 'Supervisor' on the department I work on, I lead & co ordinate work load, support other team members as im the most experienced person on our department etc. At the minute I just dont have the official job title and the pay rise.
However, they conducted the interviews for the 'Supervisor' job role today, and I feel disappointed in myself. It was a competency based interview (never had a competency interview before), and now I feel looking back, I could of answered this question better etc!! I was the last one in the interview so I was very nervous and today dragged.
Ive already received recognition from management on how well im doing, im getting the results they want etc, but now I feel i wasnt strong enough in the interview performance. Dont get me wrong I managed to get key competencies in my answers to what they are looking for in a person, but you know when you walk away after a interview and think "I should of said this" etc.
They have already seen me doing this job role, and how well im performing. They can see I can do the job sort of thing.
I just feel ive let myself down, I let nerves get the better of me. I did answer all the questions which is a good start haha, but just feel i could of answered them better.
Do you think this will ruin my chances of getting the promotion I really want?
Thanks

It's always difficult being interviewed for a job you're already doing. Don't beat yourself up, there's nothing you can do now about it. Don't give up hope - I've got jobs in the past where I think I haven't had a good interview - I think we always come out from an interview thinking we could have done better.

Actually it will ruin his/her chance. The promotion was based on interview performance, not observation of past performance.0 -

I understand your point but if his/her employers know his/her usual form, and s/he answered the questions on point albeit nervously, I'm sure they won't hold it against him/her, surely? :beer:0 -
OP, try not to worry. You may think you could have done better but you don't know how poorly others may have performed. And there'll be a reason you were picked as acting supervisor. I hope you get good news soonData protection is there for you, not for companies to hide behind0

If you're already doing the job then they're probably just going through the motions. I wouldn't worry about it too much. We can be our own worse enemies sometimes. For all you know they could have been sitting there thinking 'wow, what a great answer' whilst you're beating yourself up over it.0 -
The competency interview will play a part in their decision, but they also said prior to interview they will look at it as a OVERALL thing ie: my past experience, what im already doing in our department. What ive already achieved etc in my job.
I was told by management that I am the strongest candidate for the job role, but ive got to keep my game up because others will go into the interview and up their game so to speak.
I just feel ive let myself down, One person came out of interview before me really confident saying how well it went, and how it went better then she expected it etc!
I know im going to beat myself up about it till next Friday when we find out who has the job.0 -
Everyone comes out of an interview thinking they could have said or done something differently.
There is no point stressing about it now - it's over and done with.
If you have been doing a good job for them so far, I'm sure this will work in your favour.
Other candidates may think they have done well but the interviewer might have just been polite! If I could find a "smiley" for a hug I would send you one because I think have lost a bit of confidence in what you for them so far.0 -
This is the luck of interviews. In the past I've had some shockers and just knew that I'd blown it. Others were fair to middling and the ones when I got the job offer, I'd be firing on all cylinders so to speak. As an interviewee all that we can do is be the best prepared candidate, positive, engaging, interested etc as possible and in the process set the bar so high that the other candidates can barely see it let alone surpass it. But you won't know any of this until you hear yes or no.
Keep the faith and the best of luck.0 -
No point in stressing about it now, its done and they will make their choice.
Probably every single person in every interview thinks that they could probably have answered a particular question better, I promise.
Just get on with your life, at the time you did your best and you will just have to wait, you have no choice.
Good luck and dont forget to let us know when they let you know.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
