Probably because I did not wish to transfer any balance from existing card not easy to do if you have no debts.

Paradoxically, when I was accepted I had outstanding personal loan and credit card balances and wasn't a homeowner at that point, although I have been a main NatWest customer for over a decade - they seem to heavily favour their own customers, there was a point where they wouldn't offer CCs to those who didn't hold NW current accounts...

I've just been knocked back too.
First time ever in decades of home ownership, loans, repayments etc.
Credit record all but perfect, no defaults, evidence of debt management (eg interest-free credit card debts) without getting into trouble.

I didn't want to balance transfer and I have had many, many interest free credit cards over the years, including with NatWest.

It could be because I only closed the last NW card about three months ago.

Can someone help pls - how long does this refusal stay on my credit record?

How long before I can apply for another credit card?

    thanks for any tips.

The refusal doesn't show on your credit record - only a record of the search - other lenders don't know whether it was accepted or declined, or which company it way, just that a credit search has been recorded for a credit card.

I doubt the decline is to do with you recently closing a NatWest credit card, they let you have two (I got mine while I held (and still do hold) a NatWest Classic card too). I wonder if the level of declines has anything to do with the increased demand for the card since they've had the special offer of 18 months interest free? It may just be their policy to decline a certain percentage of applicants regardless.

You can apply for another card right now - just because NatWest said no doesn't mean all lenders will - I'd avoid applying for any from RBS Group though (RBS/NatWest/Ulster Bank) as their criteria is likely to be similar, but if your record is good and you've not got many searches, applying elsewhere may be successful

    thanks Guesswho2000, that's helpful and I didn't know it.

yes, NW/RBS can be picky if they are getting high application volumes.

I'm a NW current account holder - two in fact - irrelevant to the refused credit card I know - but galling, as I decided to put a peg on my nose after the fiasco of their IT meltdown last month and stick with them. This may give me the push I need to move banking elsewhere!

I'll second that! I've just been knocked back too :(
Never had a problem before either. Not sure how long to wait now before applying for the next best 0% card?

I've just applied for this one this afternoon, how long it take them to tell you you'd been rejected?

    @bigdave196

    my knock back was immediate.

Natwest are in IT meltdown again this p.m. so bets off as to how that will mess life up yet again.

Hmmm, Same here. Just applied and had instant decline.

Have to say not applied or had any card from RBS before and am very disappointed.
  • I applied for this credit card and got accepted all be it with a small credit limit of just £1100, which I don't understand as when I applied for an rbs credit card earlier in the year they gave me a 6grand limit.

Starting to wonder if I missed the accepted/rejected bit, not had any emails or phone calls or anything since applying. I didn't see anything obvious saying I'd been accepted/rejected after I applied, just a page with info about "How we use your credit score" etc and "You may now close this window"
