I've been criticised on this trip for my lack of contact with my neices when they were growing up. It's unfortunately accurate but it ignores the two tier system of importantnance which has run in our family depending on whether you are blood related to my sister in law or not and to the complete rejection of things I made them when they were young.
My middle brother wasn't buying 'presents' but took everyone out for a meal last night.
I'm now feeling guilty Because I still haven't spent money on presents for my middle brother and his partner (as we agreed before) but have bought a meal voucher and a $100 drinks voucher for my hosts, my brother and sister in law. I then felt I needed to buy a meal for my niece and her husband as I 've bought one for her parents. The contrast is stark.
The only one I am relaxed about is my youngest neice who I am giving $150 to help her when she goes back to college. You'll know why that matters to me.
The good news is I've done a lot of mooching and very little buying (a postcard I think! )

It's calmed down a bit today. One more day to plan San Fracisco and then off there.
If I 'm coming back here I need to spend quality time with my neices and minimal time with my sister-in-law.Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

So with a bit of perspective and the benefit of a bit of distance I have come to a conclusion. My sister in law doesn't like me. She is unable to say anything positive to me and when I hugged her goodbye it was as if I was forcing her to show me a morsel of affection. This may make visiting my brother interesting in future!!!
The good news is I haven't spent much money and San Francisco is amazing. The bad news is I've had to visit the Dr today. $400!!!!
You remember those NHS appointments. Do you want a 5 mins one or are you really ill and need a 10? This guy was fine for a 10 minute discussion on disasters and solar flares, building islands etc.etc
I was thinking 'He's mad and I am paying for this time'. Talk about waste in the system! Anyway I have my tablets and have to avoid cheese.Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.

You don't have to like people to interact with them, it's called "professionalism" at work, and "manners" at home. This may make visiting my brother interesting in future!!!
You're only visiting - not starting a new life together with them. I'm sure she'll get used to it.
Perhaps she thinks you'll steal him from her - you'll just have to say to her "I'm his *sister* and this is *not* the Deep South."The good news is I haven't spent much money and San Francisco is amazing. The bad news is I've had to visit the Dr today.
 :grouphug:$400!!!!
Medical insurance I trust...You remember those NHS appointments. Do you want a 5 mins one or are you really ill and need a 10?
My docs operate a different system. If it's *really* urgent you can have one in the same season. If you've just done something like hurt your shoulder and you can't get undressed, your clothes will be out of fashion by the time you see them. This guy was fine for a 10 minute discussion on disasters and solar flares, building islands etc.etc

They're all mad...Anyway I have my tablets and have to avoid cheese.
That sounds like something out of a Douglas Adams book.

I do have travel insurance. Not convinced it will cover it as I wasn't spurting arterial blood or having a heart attack! It is the reason I wanted a credit card with a decent amount of headroom.
Right.....it's a nice day so I'm off to cycle the Golden Gate.Debt LBM (08/09) £11,641. DEBT FREE APRIL 2021.
