Hi, I've just bought a cheap 2nd hand car, I don't drive and am hoping my carers and a couple of friends will drive it, the thing is i have only found two companies, Fish and Chartwell who appear to do any insurance for disabled non drivers, I am wondering if the fact I am disabled needs to have any bearing as i am not driving it and i do have a named driver, i just want it for more drivers..
any ideas, solutions, tx
really seems a a grey and unexplored area this..

Apologies if this sounds like I'm having a go, unintended and just trying to understand what you're inferring...Fish and Chartwell who appear to do any insurance for disabled non drivers
What kind of car insurance would a non-driver need, I don't understand this.I am wondering if the fact I am disabled needs to have any bearing as i am not driving it and i do have a named driver, i just want it for more drivers..
I can't see how you yourself being disabled and (I'm presuming) the owner of the car has any bearing on the cost of insurance for anyone wanting to be insured for that vehicle.
And answering your first point last....I don't drive and am hoping my carers and a couple of friends will drive it
Carers (plural ie. more than one) and a couple of friends? So you're wanting to insure the 2nd hand car you bought for a minimum of 3 people to be able to use?
I really don't see how this is possible without some sort of lottery winning numbers price plan! Sorry....0 -
Are you looking for what is called "Any Driver Car Insurance"? A quick search on google brought up:

What kind of car insurance would a non-driver need, I don't understand this.
The car needs insured - _NOT_ the driver - under the new continuing insurance requirements.
If it's got an MOT, it must be insured.
This is in addition to insurance in case it gets stolen from the drive, or ...
In addition, if you are putting down as the main driver, someone who is not the main driver of the car, that raises issues about fronting.
Edge bits of car insurance are annoying.
I want a policy that will cover my (SORNd) car on the path.
That's basically unobtainable at sane prices.
I want one that would cover the same car if I locked it in the garage, and would not cover it for any risks at all, just register it on the database, so I can have the car MOTd for those occasions I do wish to use it.0 -
Ah yes sorry Roger, I omitted the fact that a car does indeed need insurance regardless. That said in order to have the car driven by others (and a number of others in this case) I am unaware of any special policy for the non-driving disabled owner of the car other than insurance coverage for any driver which will likely be extremely expensive.0

- insurance is a calculation of risk over reward
- the car and its replacement cost is say 50% of the risk
- a single named driver and his / her risk would be the other 50%
- two or more named drivers will increase the risk and the cost even more
- - in this case any adaptations and modifications to the vehicle can increase costs significantly
- - ditto any expensive equipment regularly carried for the use of the disabled non-driver can also increase costs
If however you are asking for unnamed driver cover, as in a team of [any driver cover] carers looking after you each with permission to drive the vehicle, particularly if they are under the age of 25. Is it 'any driver cover' you are thinking of frenetic ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. tx for all this, its very very complicated and I'm not sure I should have bought the car, but now I have to get insurance today, as for the car being insured and not me, I spoke to a great guy at AJ Insurance who told me that the compare sites are computerised and find it difficult to work with cases like mine, he also said the named drivers must not have had any accidents in the last few years. i have had a decent quote (over a thousand) from Chartwell , I think i was also asking for personal experience..0

Well, i have to get insurance asap, I am probably going to go with Adrian Flux/Chartwell, they seem to be getting some poor reviews for when you claim, but no choice really, there aren't many options...0

I think this is the kind of situation you'd find an insurance broker useful for!Signature removed for peace of mind0
