you only have to give a months notice as a tennant, under an official AST (though notice must be given on or before the rent day and one month runs from that)

but no way would this count. Sounds well dodgy - they are not tennants as no actual separate dwelling, they live with the landlord. Bet no rent was declared and tax paid (can only discount £4500 or so under rent a room and this sounds far more).

so I am on the lads side. why on earth would they want these people at their wedding? and why are the others upset about not going after all the arguments?

I am guessing that we're talking more "log cabin" than "workshop type shed" here, and the £1,000 also covered all food, all bills and the TiVo box and fancy broadband, so £500 per person. Plus they had free run of the house, so not confined to the shed. I'd happily live somewhere (although maybe not a shed in the garden!) for £500 a month all in!!

Nevertheless, a verbal agreement isn't worth the paper it's written on, so I think Malcolm is on to a loser there, especially with him making threats towards Andy.

Given that Andy and Leo have paid their £1,000 upfront for the month, and they left on 10th of the month, then Shelley and Malcolm are quids in. If, as Malcolm claims, ALL the £1,000 goes to funding Andy and Leo, and there is no profit in it for him and Shelley, then he's already in profit for the remaining 20/21 days of the month.

And if there's no profit and all the £1,000 each month goes towards the bills and food etc, then why should Andy and Leo pay two months money as notice, when Malcolm will have no expenses to meet, as they are not living there (apart from, perhaps, the broadband and TiVo box, as those were specifically requested by Leo - the cost of those two things should *possibly* be met by Andy and Leo).

I think it's all been blown out of all proportion, but I'd come down on the "side", if sides are necessary, of Andy and Leo, who seem to have kept to their side of the bargain. If Shelley is so stubborn as to miss her brother's wedding because of an apparent argument out of nothing, then that's her looking. Andy and Leo should go ahead and enjoy their day together.

It's hearing about stuff like this that I'm glad I'm an only child!

no, somethings not right here, the £100 for the"extra" tivo box + BB for a start. to me the word "extra" means that the family already had virgin media in the house, so to add an extra tivo box, upgrade the tv package to XL and boost the BB, would cost nowhere near that. In fact to supply the whole household (house and shed) with thins would be £100 in TOTAL....

.... so either the OP or talking BS, or Andy and Leo are being ripped off.
Could be either.... £1k pcm to live in your sisters shed / granny flat? And they are expected to act as dog walkers / babysitters? Do me a favour! Where is it? Chelsea?

I have now been accused (by Shelly - not to my face mind, behind my back) of taking their side because I said "well if you're not making any profit out of them then why are you falling out over the money..." big bad me. But I stand by that; can't honestly see why - given its her brother and things are already tense - anyone would want to quarrel over money they don't really need to the extent where you end up being excluded from the happiest day of their life? I'm not overly bothered about being big bad side taker, but I'm curious as to how others see this situation and what you would do in either scenario.

I would go round to Shelley and tell her to her face that 'in your words you are not making any money off the lads, so what's your beef? Unless of course you were [which you are] in which case you should have been more careful about upsetting your cash cow. Either way, leave me out of it.'
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

And I bet they claimed tax credits for the children, then banked the additional £1000 a month. How could this possibly cover all costs? That's ridiculous. Sounds like they had a good life, paid debts off or booked a nice holiday, and now they are panicking because they won't be able to continue to repay.

As for you, it sounds like they have decided to pass their anger on to you. I would stay well clear and tell them to get lost if they have a go at you.

I'm with Andy & Leo on this one. Don't like the sound of Malc and Shelley.
I can't believe they are/were paying a grand a month AND had to do chores, walk dogs and take kids to school. No wonder M&S are peeved they have gone!

In my view, the instant Malcolm brought malice and threats of outright violence into the picture, he sacrificed any rights he may have had.

I hope Leo and Andy kept any proof of the threats that Malcolm made and go to the police. It's no excuse for his behaviour but the extreme reaction suggests to me they were reliant on the money, are they having financial difficulties?

I'm not surprised Malcom and Shelley are furious, they've lost £1000 per month and their dog walker, cleaners and babysitters.

On the plus side they have got their shed back. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Steer clear of the lot of them OP, now they haven't got their share of daily drama with Andy and Leo they're trying to create the drama with you. They're all dysfunctional drama queens. :p

    Happy moneysaving all.
