This is what I've done.Get some length's of brass chain from the hardware store & cut into 6 inch lengths & if your windows are wooden, screw one end into the window & the other into the frame,if they are UPVC,removed the screw as in the picture & attatch that way, total cost for all windows in my home was around £2.

Are you thinking of opening big windows or small? I use tension rods but what about if you got some cheap net curtain (markets sell it really cheap or freecycle) and cut the size of your window and then velcro to your window (you can cut a hole in the net curtain where the window latch would go).

Lots of good ideas folks :) I think if i lived on the ground floor i would attempt a diy solution but i'm just so worried that if it fails due to him jumping at the window or trying to force his way through, he's going to fall and fall far :(
I do have window locks that means i can only open the window a little way so theres a bit of a safe gap (once he grows a bit :D) but that also means I need two hands to open the window wide so whatever I use will have to be easily removed but still secure.
The things we cat slaves do eh! :D
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

Well the chain method has never failed Orbit or Daisy, especially when Daisy takes a header into the window while trying to get at the birds in the tree ouside the window (first floor flat)..On the main windows (bedroom, living room) I have 2 chains, one on each side.

We had this issue a few years ago but it was easily solved. We made a wooden frame from some timber brought from B&Q and then stapled some wire mesh over it. We then used some cheap and cheerful door hooks to hold it in place (with a brick as well for good measure)

Job done and actually we still one of the frames and i use it in the garden to lift the plants off the lawn so we can cut the grass :rotfl:
    Ant.
